Can't find AMD-V / SVM option in BIOS on Framework 13 AMD (7840U)

Hi,

I’m using a Framework Laptop 13 with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and recently updated both the BIOS (v3.07) and all drivers. I need to enable virtualization (AMD-V / SVM) for using VMware, but I cannot find any option in the BIOS to enable SVM.

I’ve tried:

  • Updating to the latest BIOS (JFP30.03.07)
  • Reinstalling all Framework drivers
  • Looking through all BIOS menus, including Security and Advanced tabs
  • BIOS key combinations like Fn+Tab, Ctrl+F10, A+F10 to reveal hidden options

Still, there’s no sign of an SVM or AMD-V toggle anywhere.
VMware says “Virtualized AMD-V/RVI is not supported on this platform”, and my VMs are running extremely slow (100% CPU usage in guest, barely anything on the host).

Any ideas? Is this feature intentionally hidden, or is it a bug/missing feature?

Thanks in advance!

The FW13 / 16 have virtualisation feature switched on all the time. No bios switch. The problem you are having is a vmware software problem. Ask vmware support, maybe they have a update that helps.

If you’re on Windows, check to see if Hyper-V and/or Windows Subsystem for Linux are installed - those may be claiming the virtualization before VMware is able to.
