A mainboard that has a chip like the Desktop where the RAM, CPU, and GPU are all fused together so there’s no bottleneck from single-channel memory. An ARM chip would probably do this best for the 12’s small enclosure
Everybody is concentrating on hardware, but what about a bag? Or two?
I’d like to have a flat bag for everyday-travelling, so sth. containing only Laptop, stylus, usb-c cable.
Then, another flat bag for long distance travelling with an additional place for charger, mouse, maybe 20k powerbank, up to four expansion cards
Since the laptop is 12" and most laptop compartments are 15", a bag-design that fits these would be clever.
The idea of an kensington-stylus holder ist very appealing to me. This holder could even include a part that acts as a force-distribution to prevent damage when you throw the Laptop into your bag with the stylus holder (optionally including the stylus) at the bottom.
“Loading while holding” for the stylus in combination with an Expansion Card holder would be clever as well. Hardware-on/off for that loading option would be nice as well.
Business-wise, a bag only has a little margin. On the other hand, it’s not critical like hardware. So, design it, produce for cheap in china, that’s it.
Maybe give the same colour options as for the laptop to have a unique selling point.
fairly sure those already exist actually…
yup,
quick google finds lots of laptop bags sized for 12" I don’t know enough to make any recommendations, but they do exist
Sure, random 12" bags exist, I luckily know how to search, too.
Unfortunately, it’s incredibly hard to search for the exact specifications that I defined above.
An original framework-sold bag that perfectly fits would be very helpful.
fair enough ![]()
+1 to some ideas that are already mentioned:
- Fingerprint scanner
- 4G/5G card (could just sit it in a chassis slot I suppose)
- Passively cooled chassis / mainboard
- Stylus magnet attachment a la iPads and Surface Pros
! Framework 12 Board with Arm Chip for lower power use
! Cellular Modul for mobile internet
For some reason I really want a sodium-ion battery…
In the power button maybe?
I’d love the ARM version.
- Screen with smaller bezels and better color accuracy.
Then I am a happy man.
Fw13 but in colorful tpu chassis 2-in-1 form just like fw 12, ofc with better touch screen (oled) and stylus support, and small bezel. Or if could fit dual channel on board ram, 2280 SSD, newer chips in FW12, by magic?. IR facial recognition would be handy as well

Nice to see someone consider the realisticness of a request.
So many people have a list of things they want, which wouldn’t be remotely possible.
I might be in the minority opinion on this, but the large bezel (especially the bottom bezel, where your thumb would be holding it in tablet mode) makes a lot of sense. My only minor complaint is the color. The black gives a pretty ugly letterboxing effect. Putting some sort of color-matched plastic inside the panel itself seems unlikely, but I think a grippy frame that goes over it would look great. Maybe just a decal of some sort. Would make it easier to hold and potentially protect from edge-hits too.
In terms of actual board upgrades I think it wont make sense until LPCAMM2 is widely available. I honestly would have taken an even cheaper processor if it meant better battery life. Went for the the i5 because it’s nearly identical to the i3 in terms of power draw. I think the intel N series would have been a better product fit, but maybe Framework got a really good deal on these chips.
I’d feel a lot more comfortable with the warmth (or lack thereof) if it was running the n series tbh
Pretty sure the Intel N series would be a huge step down in performance, I think you can limit the TDP or how much the CPU boosts in the BIOS if the temps are bothering you or you want to increase battery life.
It would theoretically be yes, but that would still be plenty powerful enough for my needs in all likelihood, I think when my framework eventually comes, I will have to try doing something like that yeah
I’d still rather have a 15w CPU that boosts to 28w or 40w and I can turn the boost off myself rather than lock me into 7w or 15w.
- AMD 7640U
- 100% sRGB color gamut
eGPU support (USB4, TB, etc)
I feel like the side volume / control media buttons are missing. The only solution I see is to combine one of the existing extension cards and make it media contol card with… extra memory? Or anything else helpful for user.
