Computer sucks

I guess that would depend on the warranty period. Where I am it’s just 1 year

Sure, but Windows having decided to bork itself at some point definitely should be eliminated as a possible cause first.

Yes, that’s correct of course. I am from Germany, legal basic warranty is 2 years. So that depends. But generelly it sounds like something to send back, if still possible.

Also true. This is unfortunately apparently an option to always check first.

I seconds that. Despite things that I caused myself, I had no trouble with the FW16 so far. Really impressed on my side. Even with upgrading the GPU.

Framework doesn’t even want to touch the laptop, they’re scum. My laptop cannot even run a goddamn mobile app on the computer. I’m trying to launch a game off steam built for mobile devices and my laptop cannot launch it. I’ve been trying to launch it for the past 20 minutes. Sometimes it takes 20-50 attempts before it finally works. It’s so fucking annoying.

it worked very well for 3 months then it went to crap. This is one of the worst investments I’ve ever made in my entire life. Framework is awful.

Have you tried booting from a live usb to see if you still have the performance issues? If you don’t, that would point to something with the OS. If you do, then it would point to potential hardware issues.

You got 2 weeks of help in this post alone..

Have you tried a fresh install of your OS?

None of the other things ppl have asked for have been answered either.

No idea how to re-install OS or if that’s even possible. But what I do know, after spending 40 minutes. Having to restart my laptop 3 times. A very high number of attempts, I was finally able to launch my mobile game on my laptop through Steam. Finally. I’m probably only going to play it for 20 minutes but whatever.

It took so long to start the game, all my free time is gone. I have to shut it off and do other stuff. I’m going to have to try to relaunch the game again later today and it’s going to take just as much effort.

Instead of spending your time relaunching the game over and over.. why not research how to reinstall your OS..

Mobile devices aren’t just a computer but smaller and often less powerful. It’s a different platform. Apps made for one platform may have compatibility issues running on a different platform. If you post what game, someone might have experience trying to run it on PC, maybe specifically on a Framework 16 even.

I doubt that’s the issue

MTG Arena is a game built for mobile devices but has a native Steam PC version. Or Genshin Impact. Does the OP really sound like the kind of person who messes about with Proton or compatibility layers? Granted…not being knowledgable about how to install an OS doesn’t sound very encouraging either…

@Dominic whether the laptop is at fault or not is almost irrelevant. You haven’t exactly inspired confidence in your troubleshooting skills and I’m not sure what you were expecting or what experiences you have had in the past. You can either approach this as a growth opportunity to sharpen or hone your troubleshooting skills or you can cut your losses, sell the FW laptop and buy something/anything else. Your choice.

@Dominic - Ill give ya 50 and pay shipping.

I’ll throw in a case of energy drinks & gamer snacks of your choice.

It’s more than apparent from your comments here that you’re not only clueless about computers in a general sense (which is fine), but also completely unwilling, despite your high levels of frustration, to engage with any feedback people have given you or do even the most surface-level research imaginable (like finding out whether or not reinstalling an operating system “is even possible”). At this rate, I’m frankly astonished you’ve even been able to find and register to this forum.

My recommendation is that you sell your almost certainly completely functional laptop, replace it with an iPad, and permanently stay away from computing devices that require an average adult’s level of basic tech literacy to operate.

Were I a religious person, you better believe I’d thank the lord every day of my life that I didn’t wind up working in B2C tech support.

OK, this thread went south pretty fast. @Dominic, it sounds like you need to reinstall cleanly the Operating System of your computer. Also, people here are just trying to help you. The Framework 16 is a laptop that you can literally take apart - it’s a laptop for people interested in laptops. If you joined this forum, I honestly suggest you try out some of the things people suggest. I normally never do such a thing in online fora. But really, try the stuff people recommended here. A final point: It seems framework staff offered help right at the start. What is the status of your communication with them?

PS: I am only writing this post as I think it has been a long time that you had these issues with the laptop, so hopefully you can just solve it with the suggestions made.

I was out of town the past week and had not seem the Framework Staff when I made the replies yesterday. It’s been near a full year since the issues started and been consistent. It’s flows up and down. Sometimes it’s moderate.. it runs with issues, and other times it can’t launch games or play without risking a crash. A lot of the suggestions are things I just don’t know how to do.

If you’d like to know, I was in fact the best person with computers in my school. People would always come to me for help, teachers would ask me how to fix issues when other students tried to mess with them using the shortcuts. If you think the bar is low, you can thank our Californian education. They don’t try.
