Constant crashing on Fedora 40

Hey guys,

I’ve had my FW16 with the 7700s for 2-3 months now and I REALLY want to like it, but I’m just having too many issues with it crashing constantly.

On Windows it runs mostly fine, but firefox is unusable. On Fedora (I’ve tried GNOME and Wayland) I get really bad artefacting when watching youtube content, and the whole laptop regularly just locks up and I have to manually power cycle it.

I’ve tried updating to the latest and greatest drivers and even tried going down to 1 screen but nothing seems to fix it.

My Current setup is: Dell WD19S docking station, 1x 1440p 240hz monitor, 1x 4k 120hz monitor (I’ve tried driving both of these down to 1080/60 with no luck).

Happy to provide more information if needed and more than happy to run any diagnostics that would help, I really want this to be my only workstation.

I’m on Fedora 40, KDE Wayland and it works fine. Some driver problems similar to how Intel had issues back in the day but nothing too serious. I would recommend trying KDE Wayland spin.

I use it with fedora 40/Gnome for some time with no issues to.

I fact I’ll had a bug with kernel 6.10 and mesa <24.1.6. had to get back with kernel 6.9 for a few days. Now with kernel 6.10.5 and mesa 24.1.6 anything back working.
(I do not have the 7700s GPU.)

Did you have bug without “Dell WD19S docking station”?
