D-Pad: A Handheld Framework Gaming PC

Wanted to show off a project that I’ve been working on ever since I heard about Framework. I’ve built a handheld gaming pc that uses the Framework 13 motherboard, battery and speakers. Thrown into a 3d printed case with some other electronics. All the information is on my GitHub. https://github.com/blt3dp/D-Pad

Features:

Able to use any Framework 13 Motherboard and Battery
8.9" IPS Touchscreen
Front facing speakers
Joycon docking/charging
Framework Expansion Card compatibility
Docking station connector
Power and volume buttons
Kickstand
Additional expansion provisions

Very clean gaming handheld. Awesome work!

this looks so good!! great job :star_struck:

I like how you incorporated a couple of expansion card slots on the top back. You could even use those to add some little macro pads to increase the number of buttons for games that require more.

Funny you should mention that. There’s a slot in the top that I put there to pass through the webcam cable if one were to design an attachment for that.

I had thoughts that slot could also be used to pass through some wire to the rp2040 inside to add additional buttons for a macro pad of some type. Without having to use an expansion card slot for it.

I’ll add pics of the top and bottom. But, there are also threaded inserts on both that can be used to attach add-ons. For the top, I had a thought of a bolt-on attachment to add a clamshell type 2nd screen.

For the bottom, there’s a docking port. But that could be repurposed for some type of attachment as well.

Very cool. I see that slot now.

Now with 100% more Bazzite and 100% less Windows. Everything just runs smoother.

Awesome. I am writing this from a Legion Go running Bazzite, I really like the form factor and it’s great to see an open version of it

wanted to comment that a video about it would be cool, and then I checked the github:
