DDCCI not able to work on laptop display?

I run Linux, Debian/Testing to be exact, and recently installed DDCCI DKMS supprt, and ddcutil. I’m using a KDE Plasma (v5 for now is what’s in the Debian/Testing repos) and using a DDC/CI widget, I can detect the external monitor, but it doesn’t see the internal display.

Using ddcutil detect, it seems the internal display, but says it can’t do anything with it. Why is this? Can there be a firmware change to support standard DDC/CI functionality?

$ ddcutil detect
