Decisions for gaming

Hey all so im wanting to get the 16 for some gaming and i need to do some research on if it plays the games I want well. It will run windows and I need to be able to play the following decently so my boyfriend can’t complain about the amount of money I’m willing to spend. The list is short we don’t play many games yet but here it is:

  1. Hogwarts legacy
  2. call of duty
  3. Arc raiders
  4. Day z
  5. Starfield
  6. Palworld

I was looking at the refurbished ryzen 9 with the nivida graphics module but if I need something better let me know. It NEEDS to play arc raiders so I can get away with this purchase.

I don’t know off hand what the exact framerates are for each of these titles, but mine with the slower RX 7700S runs them just fine. I’m not sure if it hits the full 165 fps the screen is capable of displaying, but I’d be quite surprised if any of them were below 60fps. I imagine >100fps would be typical for those games. That’s on the older RX 7700s, the Nvidia module is faster than mine.

I’ll also note that there are cheaper options. For instance, I could get a similarly spec’ed Asus laptop for $850 → $1150

I have a fw16, used to have the 7700s…recently upgraded to the nvidia.. have not had any issues playing any of the games I have thrown at it…

It’s not a quiet laptop when the fans are going. But the nvidia moduLe seems quieter or at least a less annoying tone that the original 7700s

and it does get warm while playing so I recommend having it on something that keeps it off the desk a little, like

I know i can get something like that but I like the framework it’s exactly what I want in a laptop. I like that it’s upgradeable and repairable but my boyfriend couldn’t care less arc raiders and day z would make it worth it for him

Ok which 16 do u have, the Ryzen™ 9 7940HS? I planned on getting a cooling pad for when I’m doing anything heavy on it. I figured this should be good enough

I’ve had mine for a while now , it’s Ryzen™ 7 7840HS

So the new ones will be better

I’ve not played arc raiders but played others that I think would be similar In demand.

I can’t say exactly what the frame rate is.. but everything seems smooth for me

As for the cooling pad, as long as the air intakes under are not blocked should be good.

It should be able to handle those just fine, I was playing call of duty on my old laptop at 1080 decent settings on a rtx 4050, and played palworld on my steam deck. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to run arc raiders though, I would think it would run it reasonably well. I don’t own it so I can’t test how well.

I totally get it, that’s why we’re all here after all

Yay! woo!

  1. Hogwarts legacy
  2. call of duty
  3. Arc raiders
  4. Day z
  5. Starfield
  6. Palworld

All of these titles should run fine. Especially for DayZ and Palworld. As long as you pick up a dGPU and 16GB or more RAM, you are set. No question if you end up purchasing the 2nd generation.

I’m wanting to pick up at least 32 64 if I can get away with it

16 is the bare minimum. 32+ is plenty.

yeah, mine is 32gb no issues..
kinda do wish I bought 64gb at that time though.. looking at the prices of memory now.

For real I used ebay for my single stick 32gb for my bubblegum 12 it was cheaper I just hope it works. I want 64 for the 16 that way I don’t have to buy more for a while if at all
