HERE IS THE ISSUE:
I have recently encountered a behavior from the device that has me stumped. A couple of days ago, the laptop started randomly and regularly playing the system sound that usually indicates the connection/disconnection or mounting/unmounting of a device, such as a USB thumb drive. I have tried rebooting with various peripherals disconnected, but the problem persists. Do you have any idea why the laptop would be continually making this sound?

That’s probably the sound that’s supposed to play when plugging in the power cable (or unplugging it), but there’s a recent Linux bug causes that sound to play when the battery starts/stops charging.

See Power charger repeatedly disconnects and reconnects in Fedora

Yes, all the symptoms seem to match. Thank you for the diagnosis! I perused the threads, and it appears that some power-management fixes soon will be pushed out to the distros, including Fedora. So, I think I’ll take the lazy (and not highly Linux-savvy) man’s approach and wait to see whether an upcoming update resolves the problem. Thanks, again, for helping me understand the cause.

Upower already knows and pushed the fix. Arch recently updated to upower 1.90.9 and my issues with the noises have stopped, so the fix is in the pipeline for sure.

This is the issue in the upower issue tracker:

Resolved a day ago. Not sure how long it usually takes for a fix like that to get released into Fedora’s packages

Fedora is pretty fast with updates. Probably a day or two. Although people might be busy with the imminent fedora 42 release.
