Does the AMD FW 16 support thunderbolt

Looking to get a new USB C dock for my framework.
I cannot find any documentation if the FW16 supports or does not support thunderbolt/USB4

It only supports USB 4 (Which is derived from TB3). Thunderbolt is exclusive to Intel & Apple chipsets & processors.

I have 2 thunderbolt devices, and they work on my FW16 AMD.
They appear in ā€˜lspciā€™
Only 2 of the 6 usb ports support thunderbolt.
There are some dock compatibility problems, so make sure you search the community threads for the dock you are interested in.

Officially, TB3/4 is a term used by Intel and Apple only, for AMD device, they only get USB4 which is basically the same and mostly mutual compatible. I am running an TB egpu dock for my FW16 and it works.

It supports USB4 on the rear slots.

Thunderbolt 4 is just a certification from Intel for USB4 ports that meet certain minimum requirements and have passed Intelā€™s rigorous testing process.

USB4 has a Thunderbolt 3 compatibility mode, which enables Thunderbolt 3 peripherals to be used.

So both Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 devices should work.

That helps a lot. I hear that they are the same thing, but was concerned if they use different communication protocols. Like gsync and freesync.

But if they are the same but do not guarantee performance, i am ok with that.

If you donā€™t mind my asking, but which eGPU enclosure are you using?

Iā€™m still trying to get as much information as possible as to whether my TB3 Razer Core eGPU will work with the FW 16.

Understandable, since I donā€™t want to spend over $1,600 on a laptop, and then find it wonā€™t work with my eGPU.

Regarding the ā€œRazer Coreā€ compatibility. Search these forums for ā€œRazer Coreā€.
If the thread mentions FW13, then make sure it is a comment about the AMD FW13, and not the Intel ones. Intel TB3 compatibility is different from AMD TB3 compatibility.
Be cautious, as a quick search found one user having problems with it, and one user finding it working.
