Dyeing the FW12 input cover?

This guy is dying some keycaps at 25:54 https://youtu.be/kGHAUogFsYY

I was wondering, would it work to dye the gray part of the FW12 input cover? That way, we could colormatch it with the colours that are available.

I went with a gray FW12 precisely because it would be an eyesore to have a gray keyboard with an otherwise matching laptop (in my opinion).

In theory it should. My concern is getting the original key caps off, it might be worth buying a test keyboard to see if you can disassemble it. but at that point you would hope they could drop more color ways for the FW12.

Edit: I really hope the FW12 gets expanded upon customization and its not just a dead in water product.

I mean, ideally they would provide just that part in different colors and people that really wanted it could swap it themselves. I wonder how big the market would be for that though. It’s probably not worth the investment for framework.

True, it follows the line of thought, How many FW12s were sold, then how many of those do people want to customize. Then ROI for adding the ability to change parts out.
It does suck tho when the brand advertises itself as a platform you can do what you want with it how you want.

I mean, you can still do that, but imo it is understandable that they can’t provide all the parts.

Dyeability varies heavily by material, since the 12 is made out of multiple different ones this may have somewhat weird results.

I am talking about the 12 though. and only the cover, not the keys or anything.

So was I (either slipped or had a brainfart when typing that out), are you sure all parts of the input cover are made of the same plastic?

I am just talking about the cover part that is light gray. It would be a lot of disassembly, but possibly doable.

If it’s all the same plastic and it is dyeable it may work but you gotta do a lot of research on the dyeing procedure for that specific plastic. If it’s a blend you may be out of luck.
