Hi everyone,
I’m looking for help with a cooling/fan issue on my Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040, Debian 13, BIOS 3.18) 2month ownership.
I first swapped the stock heatsink for a Ryzen 300 heatsink and everything worked fine. Then I reinstalled the original heatsink, this time using PTM7950 to compare performance. Since then, the fan no longer ramps up (it doesn’t seem to spin at all), and the laptop eventually shuts down when temperatures get too high. I’ve tried to put again the ryzen 300 heatsink, same issue, the fan won’t spin.
What’s strange is that the behavior is the same with both heatsinks/fans, so it seems unlikely that I somehow broke both fan cables.
A few questions:
-
Is there a recommended way to check whether the fan connector on the mainboard is damaged or not seated correctly?
-
Are there any diagnostics/tests I can run (in BIOS or Linux) to confirm whether the fan is being detected/controlled?
