Framework 13 - won't boot after fan replacement

I just did my second fan replacement on my FW13 AMD 7040 series, after both the original fan and the first replacement had bearings go out. However, this time the laptop will not boot after completing the replacement.

The fan spins up when I try to boot, and the heatsink gets warm, but the screen remains black. The backlight will flash periodically, as if it’s boot-looping. At one point I got the power LED flashing a POST code (GBGBBGGG), but it has not given me the code since. I have tried resetting the CMOS, and removing the expansion cards, both to no avail.

Am I just fucked at this point?

Sorry to hear of your fan frustration. Start a ticket with support so they can help narrow down what is wrong.

Have you tried plugging in the old fan just to see if it would boot? Maybe the sense line on the new fan is not making contact. Something changed in disassembly and reasselbmy. Reseating and checking all the connections to the board would be an approach that might uncover what is wrong. Hopefully the POST codes can come back so they can be recorded.

same issue with the old fan. I did manage to get a video of the POST code before it went away, I listed the colors in the OP. I didn’t touch anything in the dissasembly except the heatsink assembly, and the CPU (to remove the old thermal compound). It’s beyond me at this point what could have gone wrong

Did you unplug the battery when swapping the heatsink?

If I read the blink code right, according to the table it sounds like one of the 3.3V or 5V rails isn’t coming up. Is it possible you damaged something during the installation process?
