I have my FW16 dual booting windows and Arch, in windows my fans are VERY quiet unless I am doing something demanding, but in Arch, even in powersaving mode, the fans seem to really like kicking on when I am just browsing files etc, has anyone else noticed this issue, or is this unique to me? If it is unique to me I guess I will have to start investigating a cause on my machine.
I’m running Linux only, and find the fans really annoying.
There’s one extra datapoint for you.
If the issue is Linux specific, it could be a power management bit not set quite right, or a power level tune that’s different by default?
I have only Linux installed, Ubuntu 24.04.
I am not having issue so far with fan noise. They only start to make noise when using demanding applications. And I don’t think I have changed anything in specific that would impact fan management.
I don’t have the additional dGPU module
Hey im using Ubuntu 24.04 and the fan´s semingly ramp uzp sometimes without a clear reason.
I have the D-GPU Module.
im not sure how to read out the CPU Temp using Linux.
My recommendation to everyone using Linux: Just use cpupower with max frequency at 4Ghz or 4.2Ghz.
That saves you from the jet fan noise even with 16 core full use.
Some apps like browsers get bugged by some javascript, or even copying files may use 100% some cpu core when IO lags. Getting the 5GHz threshold for a couple of seconds will make fans get full speed and noisy
