Fan noise not important to Framework?

Fan noise is important to consumers, both those who own the laptops and those who are considering them.

But it almost seems like Framework themselves don’t care, because little/no effort has gone into fixing the issue other than twiddling some BIOS settings.

What is really needed to abandon the thin-and-light ideology that has made it impossible to properly cool laptops.

Everyone has tried to mimic Apple’s Macbook Air and most have failed miserably, resulting in heavy fan noise in millions of too-thin PC laptops.

If the CPU runs hotter than an Apple M1…M4, it has to use thicker heatsinks and quieter fans and have more volume for air to flow through the machine.

The cooling system is actually surprisingly good, the default fan curves are just way too aggressive. Fixed at min fan speed the thing can still cool like 20w continuous and is functionally inaudible.

Then again I too would prefer a slightly thicker laptop. Another 6mm would get us space for a 100wh battery, double stacked ram/ssds and space for even more cooling.
