If you get fingerprint login working on Fedora, you’ll likely hit this next: GDM unlocks fine but GNOME Keyring stays locked, because fprint only passes yes/no, not the password. Wrote a PAM module that seals the keyring password in the TPM instead, so fingerprint unlocks it the same way password login does. Details and setup here if useful:

After having spent about 2 hours trying to make Fedora 44 work on my new Framework 13 Pro laptop it is obvious that the wifi does not work against my access points from ubiquity. It can connect to any of me 3 APs (of different models) but apart from basic ping everything else crawls at about 9kbit speeds. I have tried both 2,4 ghz and 5 ghz and the same result.

It works against my phones hotspot though… Probably the wifi driver that is broken. I’m dual booting Windows where everything works flawlessly though, so hardware seems to be working

Using Fedora 44, Kernel 7.1.8, i also had weird wifi problems with the Intel BE211 where even a basic ping to the router would have >50% packet loss and takes >1sec.

I temporarily put an Intel AX200 in it - no issues.

I am having exactly this problem. It feels weird that it would be a driver problem, though, because the Ubuntu that it came preloaded with worked fine.

I have to admit, I’m kind of shocked that a laptop whose selling feature is Linux support, on an explicitly supported Linux distro, is having problems. I’ve never had an issue like this before – my previous Frameworks worked smoothly – and am kind of appalled.

Okay, I was able to get it working by updating to the latest kernel. But critically, I was only able to do this because I happened to have a USB Ethernet adapter lying around (and Ethernet ports available). Without that, my laptop would just be unusable and dead in the water. There’s no hint of this as a problem in the official guide.

For me a kernel update also solved the problem. I used a tethered Samsung phone (which worked without issues btw).

I think that the official guide is written by someone who had a different type of WiFi at hand. My best guess is that my UniFi gear has some functions that was not compatible with the last drivers.

Hi folks, I wanted to clarify some things.

BE211 wifi card, zero packet loss in my tests.

I am on NixOS right now, 7.2 kernel, runs flawlessly. I also have not seen packet loss problems on updated Fedora 44, either. So I am unsure why you saw the packet loss.

As always, in Linux, newer devices (like the wireless card) tend to do best with the latest kernels available. We were testing on the provided Fedora kernel. A default install of Fedora 44 presented no challenges. So there may be other factors in play for anyone seeing these issues and we’d want to get logs to see what occurred.

I have seen issues with Ubiquiti and newer cards (Mediatek) in the past, due to Ubiquiti/Mediatek firmware not playing nicely. This is not a dismissal, rather, explaining what you might be experiencing. in your case, BE211, there may be a similar occurrence happening.

My networking environment:

  • BE211 card
  • Mesh wifi, Eero Pro 6E (5 nodes) with current router firmware (old router firmware: this is historically where I see most people with new card wifi issues hitting a wall)
  • Fedora 44 Workstation, fully updated.

If you are using a current Fedora 44 ISO (meaning a new, fresh ISO, not one downloaded previously) and are still seeing this issue, please open a ticket and ask to have it assigned to me personally. I would be happy to dig into what is occurring. Do include this thread for context in the ticket please.

Does anyone else have this issue where it just reboots instead of suspend using s2idle while the lid is closed? Running this kernel currently: Linux framework 7.1.10-200.fc44.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Aug 23 16:15:11 UTC 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Symptomatically, this sounds like it is sitting on or near another laptop or metal table or related.

Does this happen sitting on your lap for example? As a test.

Seems like keeping the lid closed causes it to fully shutdown after awhile. What seemed like rebooting was because I had it plugged in and it tried to power on again.

Understood. That’s not normal behavior.

It still does happen on my lap. Looking at journalctl, it seems like suspend is being called every 20s before it seems to crash / shutdown.

EDIT:
Did more testing and I think there might be something wrong with how the lid closed event is handled. I left my system to sleep while the lid is open and it did not shutdown.

EDIT2:
Disabling lid close action in KDE settings stopped this from happening completely. Sleeping based off inactivity works fine without a shutdown occurring.

So i tried around a bit more, it seems like the Intel BE211 is now stable (Kernel 7.1.12, Fedora 44), at least with my wifi APs (Unifi AC AP Pro)

As far as power usage goes, i had some more luck replacing tuned-ppd with power-profiles-daemon, below is the command to swap the packages, reboot after.

sudo dnf swap tuned-ppd power-profiles-daemon

No guarantees.

Hi, apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this.
I just got my Framework 13 pro and I’m attempting to install Fedora 44 KDE onto it. I’ve been following this guide exactly Fedora 44 Installation on the Framework Laptop 13 Pro - Framework Guides
(with the exception of installing KDE instead of Workstation).

My problem is after booting to Fedora, instead of a set up guide for first time installation, I’m shown a log in screen. From researching online what I’ve seen suggested is just to try reinstalling it but I keep getting the same result. Any help is greatly appreciated.

how does this compare with powertop2tuned?

I did not know this existed, but i will look into it
