Installation Guide: Fedora 43 Installation on the Framework Laptop 12 - Framework Guides
I have Fedora Workstation on my FW 12 (GNOME). I updated to 43 a few days ago. No problems so far! ![]()
Actually, I also installed it on an HP laptop, rather than bothering to “de-bloat” it of all the HP nonsense. Working well there too, lol.
Installed Fedora 43 Workstation on my new FW 12 and it’s working perfectly.
I updated to fedora 43 on my FW12 too, but found issues with Firefox - opening a context menu on a link and trying to select open in new window (all via touch) actually selected on of the opened tabs.
I can’t say more, because I lent the laptop to a family member to see if they’ll like it.
Works fine for me (the context menu opens on a long press on a link)
I forgot to mention I was on the default DE - Gnome. Did you try to select one of the options from the context menu via touchscreen? With keyboard or touchpad it worked for me too.
Long pressing a link and selecting open in a new window via touch works as expected for me. Fedora Workstation and Firefox 144.0.2.
Same for me (as @stevenrj). I can open a context menu with a long press (via touch), and can select one of the options, including open in new window, and it seems to work fine for me. Though, I am currently in “laptop” mode, not tablet mode. But it does work via the touchscreen.
Yes, I can select options from the context menu by touch no problem. Fedora 43 Workstation with latest updates installed and nothing special otherwise.
What’re y’alls thoughts on Gnome vs. KDE Plasma? This will be my first Linux experience and want a decent balance between touch screen and laptop interfaces. Also, if you have any other desktop environment recommendations I’m all ears.
If you’re coming from Windows, KDE will probably feel more familiar. They’re both quite well-rounded feature wise and they both have a well developed app “ecosystem” (as in basic apps that follow the theme and design ideas of their respective DE), so it’s down to aesthetic preference really.
Try them both in a live environment, look around in the settings, use the file managers a bit and see which one you like better.
What do you mean by live environment? Also, how would you recommend using them both? Would I do a fresh install each time? Thank you for the quick reply!!
Both the Workstation (this one is GNOME) and KDE Plasma variant installers boot to a desktop that you can try out before you install. You could also install them to separate virtual machines and try them out there.
