OS: Ubuntu 24.04
Laptop: Framework 16 w/ 7840HS
I did a search and didn’t find anything so hopefully I’m not just missing it. I also followed the knoweldge base troubleshooting guide, as well as checking for firmware updates.
My fingerprint sensor doesn’t seem to always recognize that a login attempt is being made. My fingerprint is properly enrolled and sometimes it works perfectly (or at least will tell me that it failed to recognize, after which a second attempt usually works). But sometimes, it just doesn’t seem to even know that I’m attempting to use my fingerprint to login. I’ll be at the login screen, I’ll put my finger on the sensor…and nothing. I can keep it there for quite a while and I will just never get any indication that anything is happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can’t offer any help with it, but I’ve seen that on my FW16 as well. Not sure how often it happens… significantly less than half the time, but more than 10%, I’d say.
Hi Christian,
I am using Kubuntu 24.04 and also have some problems with the FPR. First i will say that on Kubuntu you can not register with the FPR after boot because it is not supported yet. FPR can only be used to unlock the Lockscreen.
When you use “sudo lsusb -v” on the console does the output hang for ~1 Minute ?
Do you see an USB 3.2 Hub in the Systeminfo (USB Devices)? There should be a Genesys Logic, Inc. USB3.2 Hub with ID 05e3:0625.
on fedora 39 (kde plasma) here. i have issues as well. for me seems to be when coming out of sleep. if just off screen blank fine. but if i am on battery and laptop has gone to sleep the unlock screen seems glitchy. i can just use my pw to unlock so so far hasn’t been a big enough of a problem to dive into

Hi strobert,
What happens when you wait for ~30 seconds on the unlock screen, after sleep. Does the message “Put your finger…” (don’t know the exact words, because i am using a german version) appear?
the put you finger message shows on its own. fyi i normally press a shift key to wake up the logon screen.
of course just tested and it working now. at least nothing yet. so either hitting the it works odds or maybe recent OS updates improved? shrug
Hi deLemere, sorry for the late reply.
That command doesn’t result in a hang, and I did find the mentioned device, but the output said that it couldn’t open it (this was very shortly after I failed to login with my fingerprint):
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05e3:0625 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB3.2 Hub
Couldn’t open device, some information will be missing
I just received my Framework 13 this week. I initially tried Fedora 40, and everything went smoothly. I got the itch to try Ubuntu with Omakub, which installed today. While the Omakub setup is brilliant, I think I’m going back to Fedora. One reason is what you described: flaky behavior with the fingerprint scanner.
