Flickering and display turning off when resuming from hibernation

  • Which Linux distro are you using? Fedora
  • Which release version? 41
  • Which kernel are you using? 6.12.8-200.fc41.x86_64
  • Which BIOS version are you using? 3.05
  • Which Framework Laptop 13 model are you using? AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series (7840U)
  • Which screen? 2.8k 120hz screen (this one).

When trying out hibernation (using systemctl hibernate) sending the system to S4 and resuming it work almost properly - I can interact with the system again, but after a second or so the screen starts rapidly flickering and then turns off (some sort of protection mode against being driven out of spec maybe? Driver and display fighting around PSR?).

The system itself is alive and I can reach it over ssh and did so to download the logs (journalctl -k, see below) and reboot it - and rebooting it (systemctl reboot) will resurrect the screen for the “turning off” splash screen with the framework/fedora logo.

I also tried to disable the bluetooth/wifi modules (it does seem to crash in the logs on resume) and tell GNOME to use 60hz mode instead of 120hz for the display to see if improved the situation but unfortunately nothing changed.

Is there anyone that knows if this is a known bug or if there are any known issues that are similar? Any way I can dig into this further? I’ve searched for a while here and in the amdgpu gitlab repo but could not find anything that tracks, at least superficially.
