Using Ubuntu 25:10 Kernel 6.17.0-41 Firmware 3.07 on the 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1334U × 12
On fresh boot the touchscreen works for a while but then ceases to respond. Normal display works fine. After 2-3 hours of work the display randomly brings the windows of running apps forward, and the control I have via touchpad or mouse also becomes random. Usually I have to kill the device with the off switch, though occasionally there will be enough control I can initiate a restart.
During the heatwave I thought perhaps this was a symptom of overheating, but it also happens at other times in quite cool conditions.
Anyone experiencing similar? Any ideas for a fix? No-one else here has mentioned this, though another user also said the touchscreen aspect of their display fails a few minutes after a fresh boot.
A tech friend suggested maybe the video drivers need updating. How might I check that or do it?
It seems like the touchscreen goes crazy and starts registering touches that don’t exist. It’d be best if you managed to turn on something that shows touches (idk how to do this in Gnome) and just look at what happens.
Do you have your laptop on battery or charging when this happens? I’ve had one instance when a charger caused my touchscreen to misbehave and it went back to normal after unplugging.
Ah thanks yes that’s a good way to describe it: touchscreen registers touches that don’t exist. I’ll see if I can find how to show the touches- thanks for that idea.
I haven’t noticed any correlation with whether it’s running on mains or battery. I mostly run on battery and recharge it as needed.
I’m following another two threads that have somewhat related issues. They indicate it’s possible to be a problem with the contacts or cable to the screen. I will check that.
disassembling the display to take pictures of the display cable on both sides (which actually involves taking out the keyboard cover as well, which the guide doesn’t mention), but while you’re there brush off the dust with a pressured air can
I stopped at step 5, exhausted, but interestingly the issue has stopped happening since. I’m not sure if it’s fixed, as it’s my play laptop that I use less often, but I guess it’s technically possible one of those steps worked.
My warranty is, of course, expired since about 1-2 months. I urge anyone suffering anything close to this issue to immediately report it to Framework support, because they won’t care if you say you’ve been experiencing this earlier than the warranty expiry window and will refuse your claim.
