[Solved] - Framework 13 Touchscreen - No touch input

Today I received my Laptop 13 Touchscreen. Replacing the old screen was easy and I also get screen output (I’m even writing this on the laptop), but I don’t get any touch inputs.

I have not found any drivers to download, fwupdmgr doesn’t show me anything I could install, what could I try?

Here are my specs:

Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
          Kernel: Linux 6.17.0-35-generic
    Architecture: x86-64
 Hardware Vendor: Framework
Hardware Model: Laptop 13 _AMD Ryzen 7040Series_
Firmware Version: 03.18

And I’m running wayland (if that changes anything)

Same issue for me on CachyOS.
I’ve also installed the beta BIOS which should enable the 13 Pro features.

The KDE settings page also reports that no touchscreen is detected.

Same for lsusb which doesn’t list the touchscreen. (At least I think this is where it should be shown)

Besides that the screen is working great at the 120Hz feel sooo smooth!

Just wanted to clarify, you are not using the LTS kernel, correct? You are using the modern kernel release? Tracking this.

No, I’m using the current stable kernel.
7.1.2.3-cachyos

I’ve also made sure that all my packages were up-to-date.

Got it, that is helpful.
So to be incredbily annoyingly obvious (forgive me).

No stylus, your fingers do not work with the touch screen?

If your fingers are not working with the screen, do me a favor, please go into BIOS, press F9 then F10 to save/reboot.

If it still not working, please open a support ticket and link to this thread please.

I believe that you need 3.20. 3.18 is from four months before the announcement of the new hardware, and does not contain the required configuration to support the touch panel.

Immediately did that, after Konrad wrote here. Am now on 03.20 but the touch input still doesnt work.

Even though you did answer to Konrad here, I just resetted my BIOS setup to default values and now the touchscreen works.

For anyone reading this later, my troubleshooting steps were:

  1. Install the BETA Bios (3.20) by following the instructions in Framework Laptop 13 Ryzen 7040 BIOS 3.20 Release BETA
  2. Reset BIOS by going into the BIOS setup utility () and pressing F9, then F10 there.
    1. I recommend making photographs from your current BIOS setup values to set them again after the reset and try whether the touchscreen still works!

Yep, also worked for me!

Now I can finally get my finger grease all over my clean new display. ^

Delighted to hear this! :raising_hands:

Having a similar problem with mine but I have the newer Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 mainboard, and the latest stable BIOS update it includes all the FW13 Pro stuff so no need to go Beta.

It would be great if the instructions QR code on the box went to actual instructions that include “a BIOS update may be required” instead of a 404 page.

Thanks, this resolved it for me.

My scenario was

  1. 13" 7040U
  2. Installed the 3.20 BIOS Beta from Windows
  3. Got back into windows/etc
  4. Shutdown & installed 13" Pro display
  5. Started up Windows, no touch screen.
  6. Checked Windows update, and found a HID to install, still no touchscreen.

After the BIOS load default, things then worked. So at least for me, installing the beta 3.20 ahead of time didn’t prevent this from happening.

So i am running an 11th gen board which hasn’t had a bios update since 2025. Do we think that i need to wait for a new 11th gen Bios update for the touchscreen part to work?

Where is 3.20, I can not find it. Thanks

3.20 for Ryzen 7040 is still in beta and is available under this thread Framework Laptop 13 Ryzen 7040 BIOS 3.20 Release BETA
I’m not sure what other BIOS’ are out there for mainboards to support touchscreens.

The bios for Intel 11th Gen is available here: Framework Laptop 13 - 11th Gen Intel Core BIOS 3.25 Release BETA

I have the Processor Intel(R) Core™ i7-8086K CPU @ 4.00GHz, 4008 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor. Any other ideas why my new touchscreen wont work?

Can you double check which mainboard/processor your laptop has? 8th gen Intel chips were never shipped w/ Framework. (As far as I can tell)

This is the update for 12th gen: Framework Laptop 13 - 12th Gen Intel Core BIOS 3.20 Release BETA

You will want to look at why your machine is pretending to have a limited edition 8th gen Intel CPU from 8 years ago.
