With the latest Arch Linux or NixOS(not sure if there will be any difference but I might switch to NixOS in the near future) and Gnome, how many hour of battery life can I get from it in the following situation?
- Flatpak OBS Studio in studio mode, recording in 1080p 10 FPS, with a browser source or a window capture with a slide show presentation open, 3 stereo audio channels
- under full CPU load stress test
- idle with Firefox, Thunderbird and a few electron based software open
I have the 7640u (same power draw targets so it should be equivalent in terms of battery life) and 55whr battery so change your calculations accordingly if you plan to get the 61whr. I can’t speak for the first one, but for the second one on it lasts around 1.5-2.5 hrs under full load on battery, which translates to roughly 1.65 to 2.65 hrs with the 61 whr battery. In general usage I get around 8-12 hours of battery life (this mostly changes with screen brightness, 8 is at max and 12 is is at min, which translates to 9-13.5 hrs on the 61whr.
Thank you for the information. Is this for Linux or Windows? Asking just in case, since you did not include this information in your reply.(I know this is the Linux forum, but asking just in case)
This is win10, general usage is mostly web browsing, spreadsheets and documents and stuff like that. Note that I haven’t ever had problems getting through an 8hr school day where I’m using it most of the day, however, with some of the more power hungry work I do it can struggle to make it to 12-15 hours of battery life. Note that my terms of general usage are pretty generous for battery life, it depends on how you configure the bios, whether your keyboard is backlit or not and stuff like that.
Edit: ah crap this is the linux forum? I need to learn to read smh my head
