But what happens to back of the display? It still stays the “silver” color right? Is there component upgrade there too or like full chassis for upgrade to buy?
Chassis has the top cover (which is the part that covers the back of the display)
Top cover parts (both for Laptop 13 and Laptop 13 pro) are compatible with both models, and will be available in the marketplace later for both Silver and Graphite. If you don’t want to upgrade, you can keep your old top cover as well. You don’t need top cover replacement to upgrade your display.
Is the top cover for the Pro different aside from the available graphite color, or is it the same CNC design that Framework has been using for a while?
The 13 Pro CNC top cover geometry is “slightly re-optimized”. Exactly what that means, your guess is as good as mine! But I would guess perhaps a bit stiffer and / or a bit less “resonance” when using the touchscreen.
I have to ask: I’m not sure how much of your 13 you’re upgrading to the Pro (motherboard, ram, battery, etc) but if you are doing nearly everything, isn’t it cheaper to just buy the 13 Pro as a new machine?
I wouldn´t stress it right now. Pros are sold out until september. Prices on RAM and SSDs are horrendous at the moment. Just use what you have. A chassis is more of a cosmetic part and won´t make a real difference. Yes it looks great and I want one but let´s be rational here. The battery has not that much more capacity and for a pair of new speakers… Just not worth it right now. But when the time is right just grabb the whole thing. If you are not into touch screens FW will probably have an option in the future. I personally don´t like touchscreens on laptops (only convertibles or 2 in 1 pc tablet). Oh, the smudges
If that is what´s bothers you most why not. They made the new silver chassis for a reason. After all the whole idea of FW revolves around replaceability and upgradeability of singular parts.
I am also very curious about reviews. I don´t own a FW laptop. Wanted to buy the FW 16 when it came out, but the reviews were not that good. But now with the new FW13 chassis and hardware it is much more tempting. I have a 14 inch laptop for work for the first time and this form factor is great to carry around. But in 2-3 years it will be obsolete. A shame to get rid of a good chassis and a great OLED display. The 13Pro hits all the right spots, so it will be my next laptop. And the RAM crisis will hopefully be over by then.
I suppose production is gonna be bottle necked by the lpcamm availability at some point so we may have some leftover parts earlier than all the batches shipping but I doubt it’s gonna be soon.
