I’m highly interested in getting a Framework 13 in the future, but with what’s going on with Intel, I was thinking of waiting for the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or a similar processor to come to it. I could get the current Ryzen 7 series, but since I got to save up for it anyway (and my current laptop is limping along for the time being) I have to wait for about two or so months.
My main question is, about how long does it take for a processor to come out, then Framework to adopt it? I’m just looking at the timeline to expect. Thanks, oh and since I am new this is my first post lol so hello everyone!

In my research, it seems like AMD Framework 13 seems to have released in October of 2023, while the Ryzen 7640U and 7840U came out May 3rd of 2023.
The 9 HX 370 released July of 2024, so if that same 5 month release is occurring again seems like it’ll likely come December 2024 or January 2025, which works for me. Thanks!
I’m excited for the strix point, but unfortunately I need a laptop in August/September. But the exciting part of the framework is that I can simply get one now, and later upgrade to the 9 when it becomes available. It’s awesome!
Probably not. Ryzen 9 processors often have the same amount of cores + threads in U series skus (whats used in the fw13) and the mobile variants with more cores don’t really fit into the fw13’s power limits. The difference between a ryzen 7 and ryzen 9 u series chip is like 100-200 mhz boost clock speed which isn’t really that much change in performance even assuming the cooling solution can sustain more than the 28w that the base clock is rated to draw.
Last I checked, Strix Point requires soldered LPDDR RAM, which goes against Framework ideals.
Hawk Point (8x40U), on the other hand, should just drop in to the existing board, so that may be a more likely possibility.
Probably not a huge difference from Phoenix to Hawk, though.
LPCAMM2 could work, and framework has said they aren’t doing anything with 8x40 series because it’s a copy/paste of 7x40 series with an ai accelerator
