I just noticed the touchpad module wasn’t seated correctly and saw that a bulge was pushing the bottom of the mainboard upward. I quickly removed all the modules and the mainboard, then discovered that the battery had swollen. I immediately removed the battery as fast as I could.
Friends suggested that given its been a year that I ask if its possible to get compensation for the battery given that its been a year and 3 months that I could be within warrantee. I have immediately bought a new battery for the meantime.
For context, My usage of the FW16 is to use it like a desktop while at home and dock it, plugging in all my monitors and my 180W charger. I would unplug it when needed for trips but mostly spends its time plugged in and off or on by accident leaving a project open.
If it’s plugged in most of the time, I strongly recommend you limit the battery charge level to 80% or ideally 60% from the BIOS and only change it back to 100% when you need more battery life for being on trips and such.
In case you didn’t know, lithium batteries hate being left close to 0% or 100% for long periods of time, and it can lead to all sorts of bad effects ranging from capacity degradation to swelling and (possible but very unlikely) explosion.
