When did you get the battery? I see that the battery is labeled 61Wh. The warranty on them has been extended depending on when you got it: 61Wh battery lifetime extender functionality and warranty

More importantly, do not charge your battery anymore or you risk it exploding!

Yeah, I would not put it back in the laptop.
Puffing should not by itself cause the pouch to break open. Puffing can happen to some extent with li-ion pouch cells. It happens often enough that some devices are even designed with a little space to accommodate a moderate amount of expansion. The problem comes with a very puffed cell being easier to puncture.

I’ve had mobile phones where the battery puffed enough to break the phone shell open, and bend the circuit board. The pouches can be quite strong.

Thanks

I bought my framework 13 gen in May 2023.

Am i outside the date?

Should I update the BIOS? Will that help?

Should I buy a new battery in the marketplace?

Contact Framework support, they should tell you if you’re covered: frame.work/contact-us.

Your purchase date of May 2023 does certainly look like it should be covered to me. Framework’s post about updated firmware and the warranty is dated Oct 2024, after your purchase.

They said the updated firmware was being released the same day, at least for one generation laptop. And that the extended warranty was for systems and batteries that shipped before the updated firmware was available. Which all sounds like it covers you.

If you need your laptop asap & can’t wait for an answer from support or a warranty replacement, you could buy a new battery from the marketplace. Though, I’m not sure if Framework has a procedure to refund you if they later come to the conclusion that your battery should be covered under warranty.

If you have older BIOS firmware then it could help for your next battery. So you should check. But it won’t help for your current swollen battery. I don’t believe swelling can be reversed.

Here is how to check your current BIOS version: How to check the BIOS version on Windows/Linux/BIOS.

You have a Framework Laptop 13, Intel Core 13th Gen, correct?

The 61Wh battery gets additional year warranty and you can claim one before May 2025

You can update to 3.05, not 3.07 as 3.07 breaks the battery charging limit settings, making the battery randomly goes to 100% Sorry my mistake 3.07 bug is on AMD not intel 13 gen

Damn. Forgot about that.

Looks like BIOS update 3.05 for the intel core 13th gen can be found here: 13th Gen Intel Core BIOS 3.05 Release and 2024_06_25 Drivers Release
