Framework 16 display panel

Yeah, I’m loving this panel too, the PPI is good, the 165Hz is smooth. Just waiting for KDE Plasma 6 to be available stable on Arch Linux and then I can apply color profile

With my setup I sometimes use up to two external panels

24" 3840x2160@60Hz 184ppi~ Dell
16" 2560x1600@165Hz 189ppi~ Framework
15.6" 3840x2160@60Hz 283ppi~ Stargate ( some panel I got from amazon )

Going back an forth between Dell and Framework panel there is not much difference but the stargate I do notice straight away I have to look at my screen a bit longer to determine what I’m seeing but I’m alright with that and I have the PPI set to default on KDE Plasma at the moment which I think is 96

I’m still thinking framework should look into doing an optional 3840x2400 panel because sometimes having higher PPI is not just about it being sharper or smaller for text but being able to have more pixel screen space when working with images, especially vector graphics, you just have to increase font size.

I tried Plasma 6 from extra-testing without issues, but I’m sticking with hyprland.
It was a smooth experience, if you’re feeling a little lucky you can enable extra-testing and enjoy it today!

Regarding the panel, imo they chose great tradeoffs.
I think the FL13 should be first for a display upgrade, ideally to some 90Hz OLED if at all possible.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I would have to add that if they’re gonna do a higher refresh rate OLED then 90 Hz is a bad choice and they should go with 120 Hz just to be easily scalable and work well with 60 Hz.

I’m curious if anyone’s tried this yet. If so, I’d be very interested in hearing about it.

Last thing, for my dad, whose eyes are weak, what Windows display scaling should I set on the Framework Laptop 16 with the stock panel for it to look fine? I’m thinking 200% might be a little too zoomed in but anything outside 100% or 200% seems to make text fuzzy in certain apps that don’t scale well.

If nobody else chimes in, it might be worth fiddling with compatibility and scaling settings under the .exe properties for a given program to see if any of those give you a better result at 150%. If his eyesight’s fuzzy anyways, he might not notice the additional blur, I guess…

Great thinking! I forgot about that.

150% was the default, comparing it to his current laptop it looks really small. When I tried 175% that looked pretty close. I also tried custom scaling at 177/178% based on the fact that the total number of pixels is 77.778% more than 1920x1200.
His current laptop is about the same size screen but either 1080p or 720p (pretty sure it’s the prior).

Edit: for clarification, we just received the laptop and he’ll switch to it as soon as I have everything working the same as his current laptop.
