Framework 16 Trackpad Drag Click Sparatic

Hello all,

I am currently facing trackpad issues with my framework 16 (7840HS w/ Radeon 780M) with windows 11 and pop!os nvidia edition (incase I end up getting the graphics module upgrade later). I have used the framework drivers bundle, and device manager shows HID compliant trackpad. I currently have wifi and bluetooth turned off from the bios, but I can download drivers from a seperate computer anyways.

Background:
I recently wiped my drive after loosing my login and taskbar GUI. After long hours with my local ITS, I chose to reinstall windows 11. After wiping all the drive partitions, I did a fresh install of windows onto a new drive and am about to install pop!os from a live flash drive onto this same fresh win 11 drive for dual booting.

Issue:
After the fresh install of win 11, the trackpad sparatically registers drag clicks. I am not sure how to clearly describe so please bear with me. When I lift my finger off the track pad and then press, a click registers 100% of the time. If I move the coursor across the screen (drag) and then press (without lifting), the laptop does not register a click initally. It is only after maybe 20s of pressing in one location that the laptop registers a click and maybe another one if I continue pressing for longer.
This issue continues in a live boot of pop!os. This makes me think it is hardware related, but beyond that I am not sure.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on this matter. I will also be reaching out to Framework support with a copy of the above. Any helpful information I recieve there I will make sure to post here.

Are your fingers too dry? :joy:

i dont think so, i have another laptop whos trackpad works just fine and I dont live in a particularly dry climate

I haven’t had issues as bad as you seem to, but my experience with the FW16 trackpad has been pretty poor, and also similar. I don’t usually have issues with single click-drag, but I have horrible issues with double finger drag and double-click then drag. Weirdly, I never have issue with just double-click, only click-drag, and multi-finger drag.

I’ve been putting up with it for a year now. I’m currently looking at the new “single piece” trackpad they’ve just announced, and may go ahead and swap that in. From the specs, it’s definitely a different trackpad (dimensions), not just the same one in a different housing.
