I disconnected the trackpad while the laptop was powered on and reconnected it, it was rendered inoperable by this and even after a reboot it remained this way and was not registering as a connected device. The only solution was to perform a bios update that was already necessary. Does anyone know why this is the case?
Side note: all software was fully up to date.
