Trackpad stopped working after something fell on the laptop

Another laptop dropped onto my framework 13 when it was closed. It dented the display side of the case.

Now the trackpad doesn’t work. Is there any way to debug wether just replacing the trackpad will fix it or if it’s something else before ordering a replacement trackpad?

I tried opening it up and reseating the connections. no luck.

Should the trackpad show up using lsusb ? what does it show up as?

The trackpad is not connected to usb, so it wouldn’t show with lsusb.
It should come up with lshw though.

hmm. i don’t think i see it. what’s it show up as?

I don’t have a FWL13, but it should show up as something identifiable.

so… hmm. anything else to try to debug before having to order a whole replacement trackpad?

I assume that you have disconnected and reconnected the trackpad cable as well as the input cover cable?

If you look at the pictures of the replacement touchpad. It will come with the touchpad and the touchpad cable. So, no matter which bit of the touchpad has failed, the replacement touchpad will fix it.
If you look at the pictures, you will see a chip and some components on the underside of the touchpad. My guess is that these chips have been damaged by the thing that fell on it.

I did the big ribbon cable from trackpad to the main case. on both ends.
not sure if that’s what you mean?

nice.

ok, that’s a good enough guess for me to go ahead and order.

Thanks!

Looking at the guide here: Touchpad Replacement Guide - Framework Guides it sounds like you did reseat the touchpad cable, and that the other cables are for the fingerprint reader, the keyboard, and the keyboard backlight. It might be worth a try removing and reinstalling the existing touchpad. Best of luck!
