Framework supporting far-right racists?

A cis person can not tell a trans person if a space is safe. You do not have any idea. I’ve been in plenty of spaces that were officially inclusive but it was still made very, very clear that we were not welcome.

There are trans people on the official hyprland Discord:

Additionally I can’t recall any major incidents since that one… I’m trying to investigate further to see if things are better now but, so far, as a PRELIMINARY look at things mind you, things seem… Actually not bad now? The things I’m seeing indicate the leadership actually cares about trans people rather than hates them, especially since I see a lot of very outwardly trans people hang regularly in the community, notably, VERY active community members and contributors/donators.

ic.. thank u for letting me know. i guess i should check my sources next time. i cant really find a better article to source on this but i can sure find a ton of posts that corroborate it

this info doesnt really contradict anything i said tho. it’s just another example of someone who presents as one who cares for FOSS and the tech world while they act to hurt it

Thanks @DSN for staying calm and pointing to the facts over and over again.

My information on hyprland and DHH were indeed outdated and although I still dont like DHH, I am less concerned about hyprland.

I would actually love @nrp (or the team) to take the time to compile some sort of summary of the things people are worried about and adress them. E.g.

“Hyprland is lead by people fostering toxicity:
This was true some years ago, but as of now, the hyprland community is healthy and friendly …”

Sure, this would be quite some work to do, but it’s quite a relevant topic…

yeah, this will be very concerning. the entire team walked out bc of this, if Nirav doesn’t acknowledge it and instead replaces them with his own employees… that’ll be concerning

The discord was never started by Framework originally iirc. So it may be that any new discord will remain unaffiliated with Framework. I don’t think Framework wants to hire employees for the express purpose of moderating a discord server but who knows. It’s all conjecture at this point

Well, not the walk out bit, that isn’t conjecture. I don’t really hang out on Discord so I can’t speak too intelligently on that particular aspect of this

“Framework financially supported Hyprland”
”They’re only mentioning DHH’s project, not paying for it.”

How is there 8 likes on this post? What do you think financially supporting means?

the server is official, so. they’re looking into getting the server setup to be reopened, I just hope it doesn’t involve forcing someone across a picket fence

Damn I didn’t even realize that the Discord is locked down - if it’s because mods stepped away? 100% understandable, especially given what I outlined above wrt moderation and far-right community adjacency.

It’s why basically every Discord server has some sort of rules of engagement, code of conduct, or whatever you call it - but obvi, that’s not enough when the project outright invites attention from communities with far-right people.

You’re aware there are two entirely separate projects being discussed, right?

The discord is official now. It wasn’t originally as I remember events happening way back then. It started as a fan thing and then Framework took it over when they expressed interest and were invited. I could absolutely be misremembering things. Not that it matter too much but if someone wants to look at the server creation date and cross reference it to the announcement of an official discord server, that would be cool. Just so I know if I got my facts straight

yeah the entire staff team that aren’t direct corporate members just went “on hiatus” (read: walking out/striking) at once in response to how Framework is handling this situation

note that this also applies to the forum, the Discord staff are moderators here, and they’re not doing anything on the forum as well as far as I know

With all due respect, to your last point, is that not implied? In my personal opinion the idea of electronics being able to last and be able to be repaired at even the board level, with customizability being a nice touch too, isn’t political at least on the surface. Sure there’s political discussion to be had about it, but I’m not someone who understands left vs right or communist vs capitalist enough to make comments about it. All i know is Apple doesn’t want me to repair my electronics, but framework does. All i know is Right to Repair is something a lot of people fight for, and i support it, and there’s laws in place right now that make it hard to make right to repair more widely adopted.

While i do think Framework could’ve done better to background check the people they sponsor, I don’t personally believe that a whole boycott is in order, though i can understand why people would be furious enough to jump ship, and its hard to say you support a company even through something like this, some people can’t tolerate ignorance, but its hard not to be ignorant when all you read on a forum, talking about drama with such a polarizing title, is people pointing fingers at other people and things those people allegedly say without providing screenshots, or better yet a way to go look at proof that you can reliably press F5 on and have it still show up. I did see the one user who posted discord screenshots talking about nsfw stuff, but that’s individuals in another discord server; i hardly believe framework went into the discord, scrubbed through every single message and made a decision from there. Again, due diligence is good, but then we ask ourselves “how much sleuthing is reasonable?”

If there’s anything i can insight from my comment here, is i want people to come together here and provide evidence as to why people are so mad. Im talking about links to messages, links to screenshots, not just some article talking about it, unless it has good screenshots in which case link those. Imo we don’t get anything done by just pointing fingers and hoping people believe it, we insight healthy change by collectively looking at the actions done, the evidence behind people’s outrage, where we can solve the remaining 5% we all don’t agree on, and come up with a solution that everyone can agree on

So please, educate me

Not quite accurate. They have been merging threads that have been adjacent to this topic. I received a positive affirmation from a framework employee about something I flagged. The forum is not being left unmoderated. The user I mentioned advocating for trans people to be eliminated? Banned. I expect they are waiting to wade into this. I have not heard that the other volunteer moderators on the forum are on strike when communicating with some other forum members who I would’ve thought would be in the know.

Just my thoughts

the corporate members are still doing things, the volunteer staff members are the ones who noped out and walked away

Fair enough. I only know of 3 volunteer mods on the forum. Spoke to a former mod, there seemed to be no reference to what you are alleging but I’m sure it’ll all come out in due time.

Edit: it does seem that one of the volunteer moderators has signaled on his profile page here that he is taking a break from moderation

People seem to be more interested in getting info without any validation, and rushing to post their disappointment and boycotting. And people say it’s not virtue signaling…

There have been screenshots posted in this thread but they are alleged to be old and not representative of the way things are today. They don’t paint a good look and neither does the blog by DHH. I’m not taking a position, just summarizing what’s been said so far.
