Framework supporting far-right racists?

Was going to upgrade the screen and motherboard on my Framework 13. I thought my money was going to a project that was making the world a better place. Now I see it’s being used to promote ideology which wants me, my immigrant partner, and my queer friends to disappear from this earth. Beyond disappointed.

This statement says a lot about framework’s lack of diversity if your company thinks this is an acceptable way to invest my hard-earned pink pounds.

I recommended you to several other people, and now you’re putting cash towards erasing people like me from this earth. Please consider reversing course. This is a horrible PR move and a fantastic way to make others in this world less safe.

Seeing this as any other way is denying reality and putting yourself on the wrong side of history. I’m sure the neo-nazis will love their new frameworks though.

In reality he has to spend more time testing his stuff on Framework gear, so it actually dries up his resources to be spent on making our lives more unsafe.

I know how human skunk DHH is and pretty surprise people gatekeeping framework sponsored this type of character.

it’s like a paedophile sex offender shouldn’t be put around children; DHH is someone openly express the harm of non-white people and probably LGBT people, he shouldn’t be put around a community that has different racial, sexual orientation and gender identities.

Exactly this. I was waiting for nvidia GPUs, and never had a reason to post here before now here because everyone knew people wanted nvidia, so there wouldn’t have been any reason for me to add to that, and I wasn’t going to own one until nvidia was available.

Now, I joined, in order to point out that I am no longer planning on purchasing a Framework.

I can’t flag the thread to tell the mods so I’ll do it here. I think this thread should be put in slow mode, because now it’s mostly bickering. Posts saying they support or don’t support framework make sense, but these posts arguing about the wording and reasons for doing it only clutter the thread. I am also guilty of this.

Simple and to the point: the statement that Framework giving a laptop to DHH supports fascism is moronic. I was being ironic there. It doesn’t support fascism any more than you buying almost any product.

Except he is not put around anyone. This move didn’t suddenly introduce DHH into your community. It is not required to interact with DHH and they will not suddenly interact with you because of this.

You can said framework not supported fascism but this act definitely fuels it.

Unfortunately, the sponsor of DHH did introduce DHH into this community.

I must have missed that. Could you give me some links where people had to interact with DHH because of this decision?

No, but that doesn’t mean DHH will not interact with people.

Framework give him a chance and a platform so he will eventually do it.

I was addressing the quote from Marvin_Burks, where it was simply labeled, that “Framework is fascist” (if someone disagrees with that post and find it offensive). I - of course - should have quoted text from the original post, not from the one you posted though (sorry!).

Regardless, not going to flag anything as well. There is no need for such things. I wish that such offensive labelling would stop. Regardless of FW-s “laptop endorsement”, they do not deserve to be labelled as far right supporters.

I also somehow bet that most of them have not even read the DHH blog post, before calling him out as far-right nut. He does not hide his sympathy to those Tommy Robinson supporters - that is true, but, for example, he actually did not called out for mass-deportation or violence against immigrants. Matter of fact he writes that he does not know, what the “correct course” for England should be. But its so easy to create more extreme narrative about everything and tie this to Framework as well and force everybody to take sides - either you agree with us or you are a nazi. There is no objective criticism, just labels, threats and slurs flying around.

Sad.

Please help me out because I still fail to see the platform. Of course he can claim that since he is supported by Framework he must be right. But anyone with more than two brain cells can see through that. I think in this instance his views and the project are sufficiently separated for me to not worry about it. But each to their own.

This blog post makes many legitimate points that DHH’s post about London and the UK were mischaracterized, so which one is it? Should we always assume the most uncharitable reading?

First they completely defamed Vaxry and his Hyprland project, and now maybe DHH was mischaracterized as well? In any case just so no one misinterprets me: the views ascribed to DHH here are reprehensible and indefensible in my view, what I’m questioning is whether those are actually his views.

It’s not just that - promoting a project led by a far-right figure leads to audience cross-pollination, as it always does, which in turn explicitly invites far-right people into the Framework community as part of the “big tent”.

Fair, but I’m also fairly certain that they will be banned right back out the moment the spew their bs rethoric.

Well, I had hoped to keep my Framework laptop going for at least a decade. But now I won’t. I can’t support this. There is no way the company had to support far right racists. It could have quietly just supported normal open source projects. I expect a company to focus on making good products, not making optional choices to get political.

Time to buy a used Thinkpad.

Unfortunately, his supporters lacks two brain cells and this will endanger the community.

To be clear, only one person is alleged to be a far right racist here (DHH). The accusations against the other person (the lead dev of Hyprland) are baseless. So using the plural “far right racists” is vastly inaccurate.

You do you, but a Thinkpad is no Framework.

Regarding your “big tent” approach, something worth reading….

You haven’t just allowed them in, you’ve paid them to enter the tent - you’ve given them a pass.

You cannot put your head in the sand and try to play the “separate the art from the artist” attitude. Framework, by its very basic approach of repairable laptops and open source, is political. You’ve now tied your company to people whose behavior you know about and try to justify ignoring.

In this case how about framework just support omarchy but not sponsored DHH.

I have problem with framework sponsoring far-right nut job.
