FW 13 AMD not responsive when connecting monitor via USB-C

I’m commenting to report that I’ve also encountered these issues on my AMD FW13. Unfortunately, this happened just 20 minutes before I was scheduled to take a certification exam, which I ultimately missed due to the problem.

I experienced the same issues as the OP:

  • The system became slow and unresponsive.
  • Firefox crashed frequently.
  • When attempting to watch media (YouTube, etc.) in any browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) the video would “load” but never start and would only buffer.
  • There was no sound from my speakers.
  • Neither my internal nor external webcam was detected by any application.
  • When I tried to access settings, the menu would open but was so slow it was essentially non-functional.
  • The taskbar icons in the bottom-right corner were visible, but clicking the sound icon to troubleshoot only brought up a grayed-out box that wouldn’t go away.
  • Shutting down or restarting the device caused the OS to shut down, but the hardware remained powered on.

I saw that there was a windows update, so I did that. I also updated my Framework device drivers. My BIOS was already up-to-date. None of these fixed the problems.

Finally, I traced the issue to connecting my external Logitech Brio camera to any of the USB-A ports on the laptop. When the laptop is powered on without the camera connected, it functions normally without any problems. However, within seconds of connecting the camera, all the issues described above start occurring. My wireless mouse, which uses a USB-A dongle, works perfectly fine and doesn’t cause any problems. I have not attempted using any other devices to see if anything else causes issues.

After work, I’ll try disabling the AMD Audio CoProcessor as others have suggested here to see if that resolves any of the issues. Hopefully, Framework/AMD can provide some official guidance or a solution soon.

EDIT1: adding additional problems that I experienced.
EDIT2: I disabled the AMD Audio CoProcessor and it worked. I was able to plug my external webcam in and it was recognized and the laptop showed no other issues as described above. So far I am not seeing any negative consequences of disabling the CoProcessor, so for the time being I will keep this disabled.
