I’m here in batch 9 too, got the i5 version with 48G ram and 1T ssd (bought separately). I ended up giving away my MacBook Air to my grandma which gave me a good excuse to get another laptop. I already have 2 frameworks and two more pre-ordered (13, 16 and pre-order for a desktop). I’m planning on using the framework 12 to experiment with different Linux/BSD systems and software.

I’m also in batch 9. And 75 years old. As I had a stroke a few years ago, I no longer find it easy to build stuff. So I’ve ordered a pre built one. And looking forward to it coming.

Batch 9 as well! getting the i5 version with 48G ram and 2tb ssd. I mostly wanted something that doubles up as a tablet that’s also Linux friendly. Not many tablets out there that play nice with Linux, either because of locked/annoying firmware or other hardware issues. Didn’t want to pay for both a tablet and a portable laptop, and luckily i found FW. This’ll be my first FW device. If it works great, i’d be interested in getting the 13 (or 16, depending on which is more recently upgraded when i’m ready) for heavier workloads in the future.
I use NixOS and Nirav mentioned it explicitly in a couple interviews as something that’s been tested on FW devices. So i can’t wait to try it!

I got sage and ill be using it mostly for school, and while im traveling. I think im going to try and figure out how to run mac os on it because I havent tried it yet and im tired of windows.

I’m batch 9 Sage too.
No rush as my existing laptop works basically fine, but that just means I have something saleable once my Framework arrives, right?
But you always want to have a secondary notebook…. Well and a third… and a fourth…

Well, it looks like no way I can get a FW12 before mid Sept. and an out of town trip then.
If there was I would order today possibly….Still need some time for setup.

It used to be easier to run OS X on a PC, and Windows on a Mac.
I used to think like that, but more recently I’ve been more like a casting director - I have certain roles to fill, I find the best devices to fill those roles, I pass up or sell on anything that doesn’t actually fill a role for me.
Sometimes there’s a new role (like the RasPi that runs the sound system), sometimes one gadget covers two roles (nice Anker power block that charges laptops and phones, I can travel with one charger), but when I’m replacing something core like my laptop it’s one-in-one-out.

Does anyone know if our laptops are even in production yet? I need mine relatively soon. I just started Highschool and can’t bring my massive 17 inch gaming laptop with an rgb keyboard that’s missing two keys and has no battery efficiency until December.

I haven’t seen anyone in the Batch 7 thread post that they’ve received emails yet, however the ordering site now says Batch 11 will ship in October, so i’m hoping that means batches 7-10 will get shipped well before then.
Just an amusing point to me what i read on the forum: I look from batch 10 to batch 9 to see if they got any updates about the laptops being shipped for an indication when I can get it. I see here in batch 9 you look at batch 7 and in batch 7 they look at batch 6 when its going to be shipped

LOL.. i’m batch 10 too! and have been keeping an eye on the previous batches to try and judge when we’ll finally start seeing them ship for us.

I’m in batch 9 but keep having to re-check my order to remember that because I’m stalking ALL the guilds to estimate progress and keep forgetting which one is mine

I also have been doing that instinctually lmao. Also for those who haven’t yet, if you bookmark this thread that’ll be an easy way to remember.
But yeah checking other batch threads is probably the most consistent estimate you can get because FW doesn’t do blanket email updates to everyone who pre-ordered. But that’s fine, tbh.

i’m super excited! if things are on track we should be getting our emails in a couple weeks and then receive them around mid-september unless some issues with shipping happen.
I really hope they addressed some of the concerns that previous batches had. I doubt FW wants to keep sending people replacements so i imagine they have.
