FW12 Batch 5 Guild

Let’s go!!

I was tempted to go for the i5, but +$150, and the fact that I’ve still got my utterly overpowered FW13, combined with the fact that I can replace the motherboard later if it proves to be completely underpowered added up to ‘save the money’

I, once again, find myself in Batch 5. If anything, I’m consistent. But this time, I sprang for the higher-spec processor.

I have spare modules from previous orders, am bringing my own storage, memory, and OS, again, so this one was not a huge outlay.

This must be the quiet batch.

i5 sage for me.

I just placed my order for RAM, SSD, and a charger. WD_BLACK 1TB SSD, ADATA 32GB RAM. I’m also gonna get a paper-feel screen protector from ViaScreens, and buy Windows 11 when the laptop comes. Hearing about Batch 0 getting their laptops has me so excited!!

Please let us know how is the screen protector (when you have everything)!

Batch 5 Bubblegum here. Went with the i5 but only 16gb of ram, I’m expecting I’ll have to upgrade that but we’ll see. I’m hoping it doesn’t take too much longer to get to us.

16GB is going to be fine, but maybe you can get more with your next mainboard.

I hope so. This will effectively be a replacement for my Surface Pro (which has 16gb of ram) and my HP Z Book with 32gb which I’m using for CAD and schoolwork (engineering student, though I don’t do much CAD on the go anymore). I am going to try and daily linux again though, which should help with the memory usage.

Did you already buy the RAM? You can remove the RAM from your order and BYO.

I haven’t yet, I might just do that lol

At which point is it possible to modify your order without sacrificing your position in a certain batch?

Most likely you can make changes until you get the payment email.

But only for certain things. I think RAM and SSD changes are ok, expansion cards definitely are (as long as they are in stock), but not the i3/i5 choice or the main colo(u)r for example. You can try, and it will tell you before you confirm the changes whether they’d cause the order to be moved to a later batch or not.

I am thinking about ditching the FW power supply and buying something else locally, and/or buying more expansion cards. They seem doable indeed, thanks!
