Hey folks! Realised I hadn’t seen one of these yet, so where are the other batch 7s at!
I’m going for the X7 configuration with 16GB of memory for now, with the translucent black bezel and the purple input kit, with 2 USB-C, 1USB-A & 1 HDMI card.
Just got my batch preparation email, super excited!
I seem to be lucky with batch 7, that’s where I got my Framework Desktop too
Oh - I thought that my Batch will be special and will go silently.
I ordered ultra 5 with 16GB, with translucent purple bezel and lilac keyboard. Will run it with Arch.
I saw people were asking why would anybody opt for Intel 5.
I already outsourced all heavy tasks to my local “server”, which is a half-broken G14. So I’ll run small local AI and stream Sunshine games from that. This would allow me to do stuff and game on FW 13 Pro and not drain the battery.
Also even though X7 and ultra 5 should have similar theoretical power efficiency, due to inevitable glitches that would cause CPU spike up, the ultra 5 will jump lower due to its limit. So this is why I expect to have longer battery life on ultra 5.
That’s interesting - I was expecting the X7 to probably have marginally better battery life, because they each have 4 P cores and for Low Power E cores, but the X7 has the additional 8 E cores, so any load which is enough for the LPE cores, but doesn’t need P cores, could go to the E ones instead. I could even comfortably disable the P cores and still have 12 cores left on the X7, whereas that’d be a much larger kick to the X5.
Maybe I have an outdated impression of the E-cores, but I feel like manufacturers make more E-cores not to tackle light tasks like video streaming or light browsing, but to make room for medium tasks not to load P-cores as easily.
I think that it would also require a perfect governor.
P.S. I never read any research on what is better for example to run 4 E-cores or 1 P-core. Too much nuances.
I only know that my first goal would be to measure the minimal power this laptop needs for youtube. This is my kind of benchmark. In comparison my current G14 with nvidia off consumes 9-12W, which is quite high.

That’s very reasonable! I’m no expert, I just assume that having something in between the P and LPE cores gives a bit more flexibility to use less power than otherwise
Payment for my order has been collected on 13th of September. X7 + 64GB from new, cheaper ram batch. Just in case anyone thinks the ram swap delays your order.
I have also not received anything (from batch 8) but looks like we both ordered the ultra 5s. Everyone i can tell who’s getting notifications have ordered the ultra 7
