I work in the IT field, while studying for my Linux+ certification Red Hat Enterprise Linux was a big focus on it. Since Fedora is the community version of that, I figured it was a good way to learn it. Fedora has Flatpak installed by default, which in my experience has been faster then running snaps in Ubuntu.
I haven’t tried Debian before, all I know about is that Ubuntu is based off it. Sounds like it’s a solid distro.
Makes a lot of sense ! I’ve been daily driving Linux for years, I have done a lot of distro hopping but I always came back to Debian for my daily driver, it’s lightweight, rock stable which means the packages are usually a bit older.
You should give it a try ! Good luck for your certification

I saw Batch 19 is sold out (thanks @Barrett_Twining for pointing this out). But even more interesting is that I saw Batch 20 also indicates a Q2 shipping timeline!! Without putting too much stock into what this means, I’m hopeful this means productions and shipping is ramping up as Framework gets deeper into FW 16 runs.

After an unfortunate frame.work 13" flameout after 2y of chassis use and 15mo of upgraded mobo use, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a brand new heavily-loaded 16" system for my primary laptop (I’m a software engineer and apparently am very hard on my laptops, being a power user and all). I keep voting with my dollars, in the hopes that more effort will be put by the HW design teams to ensure an improvement in unit robustness.
Right to repair is important to me, but it is sometimes overshadowed by systemic HW insufficiencies, such as failure of the captured bolt systems and early mobo flameout as compared to mainstream laptops, leading to unwanted and increased cost in the long run. I had to replace the input cover to mobo cable four times (but perhaps this is a testament to my heavy-handed manual connect/disconnect which I had to do many times as other components such as touchpad/mobo cable connection point and keyboard failed and had to be replaced). I have discovered those receiving pins on the 13" mobo cable connections are very delicate and easily snapped/damaged. There were also some unexpected consequences, such as the failure of a captured bolt receptable (which was just behind the white power button of the 13" chassis) almost led to a fire as a short was produced and the button was hot enough to cause serious burns (which I thankfully avoided). Despite all these growing pains, I still believe in the frame.work team !
I also went for 64GB because I can’t be productive with only 32GB I have discovered.
When I’m planning to run onboard VMs, productivity software, and sometimes up to 100 tabs on my Brave Browser (it’s just how my workflow works, I do research phases, collect/curate a number of tabs, and then go over them at a later time as a two-pass kind of workflow).
I picked up the shell and the GPU because I want to balance power consumption with GPU performance (I sometimes do medical tracheostomy tube design, which is very GPU-heavy).

It looks like it’s just 14 through 19 to go, and it seems like it’s getting to be 4 days between batch emails. So, that means if the Batch 14ers get their emails on Thursday like they predict, we could get ours as early as May 22.

Did you consider the 96GB kit approved by Framework? I’m looking at it, but am just a little worried about instability.
Out of curiosity, do any of you guys know the best way to transfer my windows install from my old laptop to my new framework when I get it? As far as I am aware this laptop uses a sata drive, and not an NVME, so just swapping out the storage doesn’t seem to be an option.
