First of all, this is a request for help with a persistent inconvenience, not something that keeps me from using my Framework.
I have a Framework 16 (AMD Ryzen 7040 series, no dGPU) that I frequently dock to an Anker 565 USB-C hub that is kept powered by a 65W charger and connected to a monitor (via HDMI). Usually when I connect my laptop to the hub (always via the USB-C expansion card in slot 1) the monitor will connect, but the laptop won’t recognize that the hub providing power. However, if I just unplug the hub from my laptop and plug it back again, it always registers power AND connects to the monitor. Sometimes, though, it recognizes the power on the first try. I can power the laptop directly with the charger from slot 1, and I’ve never had any issues with chargers that I expect to power the laptop.
So, to reformat that information in an easier-to-reference way:
- Laptop: Framework 16 (AMD Ryzen 7040 series, no dGPU)
- Running Ubuntu 24.04 (Linux kernel 7.0.0)
- Hub: Anker 565
- Always plugged in via USB-C to a 65W charger
- Always plugged in via HDMI to a monitor (can give details if relevant; the monitor has its own, separate power cable like usual)
- Behavior: in order to get power to the laptop via a USB-C expansion card in slot 1, it usually requires plugging the hub into the laptop, unplugging it, and then plugging it in again (though sometimes it works on the first try); monitor connectivity is always good
Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Is this likely a problem with the hub? With the charger? With the laptop or expansion card firmware? Did I somehow cause this? Is it something I can create a workaround for?
I’ve been accepting this weird behavior for like a year and a half already, so it’s not a big deal if the answer is “that’s life sometimes 
”, but it would be nice to get rid of this annoyance, and if it’s a bug in Framework firmware then I hope it can be fixed for everyone.
