Grey Cat is grey?

Hi Framework Community,

regarding the color options of the extension cards and other parts.: Which grey is grey?
Is the grey color option from the (USB-C) expansion cards matching the keyboard button color or the color of the keyboard cover?

Further, when choosing the extension cards for USB-A and HDMI in the order process for the FWL12 black, they dont seem to have the color choosing option. Will they match the color chosen for the USB-C Cards?
I am asking this question because i try to get matching expansion card color for the case edge of the black FWL12.

Greetings
Alex

You can find pictures around of the cards in a laptop. In the Framework 13 the cards always looked to match the shell of the laptop to me, that is, gray.

If there is no option, assume they will be gray.

There is a difference between aluminium (silver coloured), which will match the Framework 13 and 16 and gray, which will match the gray Framework 12.

Most of the expansion cards are silver and won’t exactly match any of the Framework 12 colours.

Currently all cards are silver with the exception of USB-C cards. USB-C has matching color options + translucent.

So anything other than USB-C will not match perfectly at the moment. Maybe there will be other options in the future, but nothing has been announced AFAIK.

Personally I can live with that. I even chose several mismatched USB-C cards, only to be able to set different accents depending on the mood of the day. But that’s really just personal preference

Edit: @alipx When looking at the configuration page, black + gray/black model side by side in tent mode (where you can see two extension cards) it looks like the gray accent on the black model is darker than the gray of the gray/black model. I don’t think the gray of the USB-C modules matches and all other cards are silver (IIRC only network card is always translucent) anyway. In their example image the recommendation seems to be to use black USB-C modules like they did in their photo. If you have a bit money to spare I would suggest to get more than just 4 cards… maybe 4 black + any other extension cards you might need occasionally. Speaking from experience when I first got the 13. Buying cards later was not economic and I regretted not picking up all the cards I would need all at once. This time I am also getting a few accent colors for USB-C just to have the option.

If you want certainty maybe best to also ask support as only they know all the shades and colors for sure.
