[GUIDE] My FW16 easyeffects Profile

The goal of this post is to talk about better ways of tuning the Framework 16’s speakers beyond the current norm in the Framework community.

I’ve read Markus Schmidt’s laptop tuning guide, but I disagree with it, at least in the context of the Framework 16.

It turns out that the FW16 actually has a lot to offer in terms of bass and clarity, even without compression and fake bass.

If you would like to use the Bass Enhancer filter with this profile, and are okay with its problematic phase behavior, simply put it at the beginning of the chain.

I’m really confused as to why convolution isn’t popular; it’s such a great tool when used correctly.

I believe this profile to be the best balance I’ve found so far.

Here’s a Github repository I’ve put together to hold my public easyeffects profiles. The one this post references is v1.0.0.

It’s a culmination of 1 1/2 years of experimentation with the Framework 16’s speakers.

This profile, as with any filter chain that drives rail to rail, benefits from having the volume adjusted at the application end instead of via the desktop volume control (it should be at 100%).

Be sure to have your BIOS speaker setting configured for Linux, as it does something to the tweeters that makes them work more correctly-ish.

Anyway, to whoever reads this and actually tries out the profile, let me know what you think!
