Can you plug an HDMI expansion card into a Framework Laptop 13 with the AMD Ryzen AI 300 mainboard? I received a nice welcome email in advance of the mainboard, but a diagram in the email shows the DisplayPort capabilities of each expansion slot…
You can! The HDMI expansion card is, internally, a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so every port that works for DisplayPort also works for HDMI.
Thank you! Armed with that insight, and observing that my monitor has both HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, I ordered a DisplayPort expansion bit for my Framework 13 and popped it into one of the two UHBR20-capable ports. Wow! Is it my imagination or do I really see brighter colors, no shear, no lag?! So silly to have been burning battery to power an HDMI transformer all this time when a DisplayPort adapter would have served better. Framework’s catalog writers could liven up the shopping page by pointing out stuff like this.
Even better, see if your monitor have a “usb type c” input!
That is Display Output, not DisplayPort
That is Display Output, not DisplayPort
@Destroya that was the source of my misunderstanding. In each box, the display output was a flavor of DisplayPort. I understood from the diagram that the AI 300’s only “display output” was DisplayPort. Which now I understand to be true only in a narrow, pedantic sense that need not greatly concern someone who has an HDMI expansion thingy at hand.
