I am having issues with Davinci Resolve (memory allocation that causes the program to crash 100% of the times I switch between some of my timelines).
In the tests I am doing to find a solution, I have discovered a weird thing. If I open the pc while plugged in, the gpu draws more than 20W; while detached it draws less than 20W (even in “best perfomance” mode). This is the norm. However, if I start the pc while plugged in, then detach it, and finally reconnect it to the wall, the system draws 20W maximum (with an average of 15W).
So, everytime I start the computer plugged in does it do this? No. I want to say 80% of the times it starts as if it was on battery (20 - 15W).
I want to exclude thermals from the equation: I am in an hotel right now, and I was able to activate the high wattage mode while working on the bed.
I also don’t think it depends on the battery charge: I activated it with the battery at 55%. I even tried to cap battery charging at 50% to see if it could activate when the battery was fully charged, but it drew 20W again…
I am not even sure where I should dig in the system. What’s your experience? Do you have any idea? I am a bit lost…
I have a 7640U (Adrenaline 25.3.1, and I tried also 24.12.1). I power it thorugh a UGREEN 140W charger (USB PD 3.1). I am on Windows.
