Inputcover stopped working spontaneously

Now it hit me too. Yesterday my inputcover stopped working spontaneously while my framework 13 idled.

First my setup:

  • Framework 13, 13th gen, i5-1340P, DIY, 16GB RAM
  • Thunderbolt 4 Dock, HP G4 with the following connected devices: LG external Monitor(usb-c), Logitech Keyboard, Logitech Mouse, Soundblaster X3, Jabra Link 400, Delink 2,5G Network, Nitrokey, USB-HUB, powering the laptop
  • Fedora 44

What happened:

While the laptop was idling, suddenly the following happened:

  • external monitor is shut down, internal monitor activated itself
  • power LED → off
  • internal keyboard backlight → off
  • internal trackpad stopped working
  • internal keyboard stopped working

But strangely enough:

  • external keyboard still worked
  • external mouse still worked
  • audio via soundblaster x3 still worked
  • network via delink still worked

So, as far as I can tell all usb devices still worked except the external monitor.

What have I done after this happened ?

  • I rebooted the FW13 → did not help
  • I powered off the device, disconnected the Thunderbolt 4 dock and immediately powered on the device → did not help
  • I powered off the device, disconnected the Thunderbolt 4 dock, waited for about 20-30 minutes and powered on the device → inputcover worked again. But I observed that keyboard backlight and power LED came back on only after or during boot of the OS. I think those normally are illuminated directly after power button is pressed…

I have run this setup for years without issues. The laptop is rarely moved. All updates are applied as soon as they are available to me via the OS.

Any help appreciated…

Reseating the connectors on the input cover and the main board would be a few steps to try. Could be they were barely connected or partially connected this whole time and now just enough to not have them touching correctly. Take a look around to see if anything is pinched or bent where it should not be.
