Intermittend detection of external displays

System:

  • System: AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series - Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370
  • Expansion Bay Module: Graphics Module (AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S) (2nd Gen)
  • Windows 11 - 25H2
  • Issue made with Framework team: 7XBU4W8H

Situation:

Somehow my external displays are intermittently detected. It does not matter in what port my display(s) are put. I have used all 4 USB-C options, one being of the discrete radeon graphics card. I am driving 2x LG 32UN650-W (4K displays), one per USB-C port. If I reboot sometimes it fixes the issue for a while. I used multiple USB-C to HDMI cables, it did not solve the issue. Issue was also present when running Bazzite, switched to linux due to missing proton drive application.

Sometimes the issue is fixed by plugging in and out the USB-C to HDMI cable.
I am running AMD driver 26.5.1
I get the idea that the system does not know which graphics card to use, APU or Discrete and is continously switching the graphics card.

Right clicking on dektop and opening AMD software: Adrealine Edition triggers it.
Right clicking on taskbar to open taskmanager also triggers it.
Windows switching to night light triggers it
Windows opening notification menu from taskbar triggers it

I have no clue what is going on and what I can do.

Additional investigation using the event viewer of windows gives the following information.
Local view of events: RX7700S normal messages.
Local view of events: 890M errors:
Device PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_150E&SUBSYS_000DF111&REV_C1\4&85c8329&0&0041 had a problem starting.

I am in contact with the Framework team, currently ongoing troubleshooting.
The issue is present for me on the rightside of the laptop (expansioncard slots 4, 5 and 6).

Maybe a hardware issue? If I move the expansion cards to the left positions, 1, 2 and 3 I experience no issues.

Being as there are controllers for each side it would be interesting to know if the firmware versions are matching or if forcing a reflash on that side of the board makes a difference. (Do not do this without acknowledgement from support)
