Not if they have sufficient error bits that ECC cannot correct the error.
Any error that is not corrected after an ECC re-write (where the ECC can correct the error) is a hard error, i.e. a RAM bit has failed permanently. When that happens it is time to replace the DIMM - especially in a bit-barn environment - as the likelihood of the same RAM chip developing another bit error on the same address is raised, and now a 2-bit error becomes uncorrectable which causes major problems.
Let’s keep this on topic please. If you want to discuss ECC, you can do that here: ECC support?
Only 7 hours to go!
I do wonder though, why they couldn’t just reveal specs and pricing ahead of time? The waiting is getting painful.
Confirmed pen pressure and tilt support let’s go boys! This is fantastic. As always, a bit pricey, but with this one I’d argue it’s one of their better pricings.
Absolutely excited to see this thing in the hands of real people. Of course, I don’t pre-order anything, but once again I’m more than tempted especially with the olive sage colourway
Any chance you can make a fanless version? Bigger heat sink, no fan? I don’t care if there’s a performance hit.
Another option If you don’t want the fan to spin up is to cap the CPU in software.
Is this stylus included in pre-orders? I do not see anything on the page listing or pre-order to state that there is a stylus at all. I do however notice there are stylus specs indicating an included USI 2.0 pen.
No, currently the pen is not ready for shipping and is not something you can pre-order. It will be an additional purchase after the fact, it seems.
Perfect, thanks! As both USI 2.0 and MPP 2.0 are supported, finding one shouldn’t be too difficult. I wasn’t expecting one when I placed my order, but finding this thread had me confused on if I missed something ![]()
It’s a 2-1 tablet/laptop — not really a Chromebook substitute.
The pricing is more reasonable when viewed that way.
Will the Framework 12 mainboard be useable outside the laptop? Can it be used like a Desktop PC, like the framework 13 can?
We don’t have any confirmation of an enclosure currently but it can easily be assumed you can. It would take effort to ensure you couldn’t that is. I assume there’ll be some 3d printable enclosure quite quickly after launch.
Good question though but to answer in a few words, it’s not completely confirmed but very likely.
How pricey a Chromebook is?
Hey framework, keep it up, I do feel the pressure for you (POTUS not helping :)) but you have something here, hang in there! Framework 12 will grow! ![]()
“…60-degree pressure and tilt sensitivity, and USI 2.0 support.”
We will see when it launches. But it seems promising in some respects.
I am a teacher and would really love this for my students at school. The biggest Problem in the design right now is the front facing camera. While a front facing camera is great for video calls, its kinda useless for anything else. At least in my school we rely heavily on a back facing camera for pictures or scanning QR Codes. I do know that some Manufactures solve this with problem with an additional camera on/in the keyboard. For example, the lenovo yoga L series or the (for better comparison) acer travelmate spin b3.
A styles which is stored in the case would be awesome, but is not as necessary as the back facing camera.
Maybe a custom expansion card would help.
@JTrevail
Oh yes it would! Though you have to uh, open up the device. In tablet mode you get a good view of the back of lid. And pointing it sideways is uh, a bit pain.
@Alex_H1
USB webcam is a thing, just make them in the shape of a expansion card and stick it in there. Replaceable, even. So if someone decide to stick their finger in there and somehow break it
