Oddly, my battery health now shows 85%.
The Framework 13 is able to reduce its CPU power draw based on chassis temperature (apu_skin_temp). If you are paranoid you can lower these values by using either:
- ryzenadj
- ryzen_smu
- Or adapt GitHub - AlxHnr/amd-ryzen-ignore-stapm: Disable throttling based on chassis (skin) temperature , which wraps ryzen_smu
If the skin temp doesnât help, try slow/fast limits. But in my view it is not necessary. It is up to Framework to build proper batteries and to provide reasonable defaults.
Does YAFI actually succeed in setting a charge limit that stays in place after a reboot?
When I set a charge limit using framework_tool it only stays set until the next reboot.
You seem to have to do it in the BIOS settings if you want it to be permanent.
It can be useful to be able to set the limit to 100% to fully charge the battery before setting out on a trip, while at the same time ensuring the limit will go back to your default safe 70% (or whatever) even if you forget you need to set it back.
It does look like there is slight separation, which can be a sign of battery swelling, but the photo alone is not enough to confirm it. If the battery appears raised, the case will not sit flush.
Stop using the laptop on battery until you verify it. Open the device again and check if the battery looks puffed or uneven. If it does, replace it immediately and avoid charging it, as swollen batteries can be a safety risk. This is not typical after about two years, but heat, heavy gaming, and staying plugged in can accelerate wear.
It is. A sound battery is completely flat. His battery looks even worse than the one in my photo, with my photo being already bad enough for support to tell me to stop using it immediately.
When I set charge limit to 60, the laptop indeed charges to 60 max.
However, if it means anything, when I looked at charge limit via BIOS, the charge limit still showed 100. I set that to 60 as well.
But when you reboot, doesnât the charge limit get set back to what the BIOS thinks you set it to?
Just tested it, and youâre right, thatâs exactly what happens. I guess Iâll continue to use BIOS to change my charge limit instead of YAFI.
