It exists! Custom OcuLink adapter for the Dual M.2 expansion bay module

Hello Kyle,

A week a go when you said you had some more coming in, did you mean:
1: I’m receiving those who we’re reserved / bought during the last run?
2: You are receiving some more that are not reserved yet and you are gonna contact people in the waiting list when they arrive?

I’m debating waiting for your adapter (seems really nice) if it comes in the next 1-3 months vs ordering a cable + finding someone to 3d print the back port cover if you think it might take 4-6 months or more before you can ship some.

Don’t want to put pressure, I know it’s not your job and is a side thing, just want info if you have some to make a purchase decision.

Thanks for your work!!

As I’ve read, normal windows just will not listen to you regarding many things. Microsoft has chosen to not give any option to consumers.

The ability to own your pc, and have your choices respected, is available if you use windows intended for businesses. Here is a thread on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC. Microsoft provides a download for IoT LTSC. Iirc there is a link in the thread, as well as more information.

Large businesses can not, and will not, tolerate a system that simply does whatever it pleases. They would all migrate to Linux before they accepted Microsoft doing that to them.

Thanks for the info. I’ll look into it. I’ve been doing my best to disable/debloat a lot of windows honestly as I don’t like how they have changed over the years.

There are more adapters on the way than people currently on the list. I will be reaching out to a few people at the top of the list within the next week. Starting back up with just a few while I test out the new sales/shipping process. Assuming all goes well, I will start reaching out to more people on the list. Unless something goes horribly wrong, I feel like everyone on the list that is serious about getting one should be able to order one within the next 4-6 weeks.

These are all estimates and I can’t make any guarantees.

Superb, I’ll be looking out for your email

Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond!!

I just stumbled across this thread after making do with my janky cable solution, I’m very excited about the prospect of having a nice, polished setup for the Oculink port! I just submitted the form, thanks for getting this put together!

Hi everyone. Another update.

First, I want to thank people for saying I don’t need to apologize for life stuff. I sincerely appreciate the understanding.

However, I do want to give people a little insight into why this is taking a little longer than I had hoped, and to give a bit of an update.

Outside of having a full-time job, I have had to be chauffer for the last month because my partner broke her foot. The boot is hopefully coming off this Friday.

I did get a new process set up for selling/shipping and reached out to a couple people at the top of the list to work through it with me. Part of the process was ordering padded envelopes and printer labels. The padded envelopes I received were junk (hardly any padding at all). I also had some formatting issues with printing the shipping labels. I could have still used the labels I have, but it was a lot of manual formatting and my goal is to simplify the whole process. New envelopes and labels are on the way, but the weather issues in the US are delaying a lot of shipments, so they won’t get here until later this week.

Hopefully with the arrival of the new envelopes and labels I will have the process smoothed out and I plan to reach out to another small group of people at the top of the list this weekend. If all goes well with that group, I will contact a larger group of folks from the list in a couple of weeks (maybe everyone, or I might spread it out over 2-3 weeks to help keep it manageable).

For label printing. It should be easy to just select “Labels” instead of A4 paper, and then select a database, and it will query the database and print all the labels. The “database” can be a real database, or just a spreadsheet with the addresses in it.
I think Libreoffice can do this, if not, MS Word can or Linux gLabels.
Then print on the sticky label paper.
It should mean that there are no formatting issues to sort out.

The paid USPS labels are getting generated for me as PDFs. I tried to get a sample before I ordered labels and got labels based on the sample. Turns out the PDFs I actually get are not the same. Had to crop, rotate, adjust margins, and resize to get it to fit properly.

I’ve had to do that just once in a while. It can be a real pain. Can’t imagine doing it for a bunch of orders.

I can now confirm the adapter is working with the Minisforum DEG2. Works just like the DEG1 but with extra thunderbolt connectivity.

Hello Kyle,
I have just learned your work, and I must say this is exactly why I ordered a FW 16 - the dedication that the community members have!
I just submitted a sign-up form, and I wanted to say thank you for going through all of this effort!

Thanks!

The process seems to be going well. The people I reached out to have found it easy and getting the labels printed and packages sent is smooth.

Another quick update. Had a busy weekend around a LOT of people and now feel like crap this morning. BUT, for everyone who has completed the form, keep your eyes peeled over the next week/week and a half. I plan to email folks in batches hopefully starting tomorrow (as long as I feel somewhat better). I know a few people had my email go into spam/junk, so be sure to check there too.

Hey Kyle, I just wanted to show you something I saw linked on Reddit

Edit: I removed the link because I’m not sure how much you have left to sell off. I sent it to you in PM so you can look

OK. Wow.

So, just a heads-up folks, especially for those that haven’t followed this journey from the start.

When I first started down the path of getting these adapters, I rolled the dice on the first revision and ordered 10 pieces. They did not work in the Framework 16. I spent a lot of time testing multiple pieces, in multiple docks, with multiple cables. I even sent one to @OVER_CL0CK who confirmed that it doesn’t work.

I am glad I held onto them because I was able to take a couple of pictures.

The manufacturer ended up creating another revision and sending a single test piece to me. That one worked, and I rolled the dice yet again on a larger order. Thankfully, those ones also work and are the revision that I sell. The traces on the adapter I sell are noticeably different than what you see in those photos.

I don’t fault anyone for wanting to find a better deal, but if you are ordering an adapter that has traces that look like the ones in the photos above, you are probably going to be disappointed.

Also, I hadn’t said anything publicly, but people who have been purchasing through the new process are doing so at a slightly lower price ($53 vs the original $60). I was hoping to go even a little lower, but I lose nearly 15% of each sale to the platform.

I didn’t see the link, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Did I understand correctly that someone copied your first, broken design and is selling that? I’m not sure why else someone would be disappointed.

That is correct. I didn’t put the link in but someone has copied the original design (exact copy down to the text printed on the adapter, so it must be via the same manufacturer). Perhaps they created more than the 10 I originally received and have sold them off to someone else. Not sure.

Hey everyone!

As of this morning, I have reached out to everyone who has completed the form from the first post. If you haven’t received an email from me, check your spam/junk folder.

Since I have reached out to everyone, the form will not accept any more responses.

I will need to work through the orders that I have and ones that come in over the next day or two. I will share out the direct link (hopefully not violating any rules) on Sunday or Monday.

I want to thank so many of you for not just supporting this project by purchasing adapters, but also for the many kind words that have been shared. This is an amazing community. I’m glad I was able to play a small part in showing what has been made possible by Framework.
