Josh Cook not delivering?

Heya community,

After seeing many exciting posts I decided to buy a couple of expansion cards from i2c labs by Josh Cook back in February 2025 to be delivered to the Netherlands. It is now August and I have received no cards or information expect the initial confirmation. I have tried to reach out via email and phone multiple times. Has anybody else gotten any orders delivered since the new year? It seems his account was last active end of 2024.

I just really want to play/work with the cool cards, thats my main goal. Thanks!

He’s basically vanished and some of his social media accounts are gone. If you already sent money, try to get a chargeback from your bank.

This might be a situation where the mods should add a notice to all of his sale posts informing people not to submit any orders. Possibly even remove the links.

I think that is a good idea.

Ask @moderators if they can edit the title of any threads that mention Josh Cook products, and add something like [PRODUCT PERMANENTLY OUT OF STOCK]

To warn others not to purchase items, at least until Josh shows up again.

Oh.
I did not think about that, purchase still being an option in his webstore. And it seems there are one or more active stripe checkout links taking you to make a preorder.

They should have options beyond just editing titles. I believe some can insert mod edits into posts. Hell, I can edit titles, due to having forum Trust Level 3. Provided my activity level never drops below the threshold which triggers automatic downgrade from that.

Also, mentioning the whole @moderators group is not an option, does not work. Does it not popup to warn you?

If none of them sees this in a little while, someone may want to choose an active mod to individually ping.

I put in an order for two different cards in August 2024. I’ve sent an email asking for an update or refund a couple weeks ago. I don’t expect to get a reply. I will then ask my Credit Card company to reverse the charge. :woman_shrugging:

Yeah, I’ve got an order in for the Oculink card, and I’ve heard nothing. It’s way past the range of getting a charge back for me.

There hasn’t been any activity on the relate GitHub account either, nor have I gotten any reply back from the email listed there, or the address he emailed me about the Oculink board - josh_cook@i2clabs.com.au.

My guess at why Josh C disappeared.

  1. he took orders before he had finished designing and costing the product.

  2. he found the dev costs turned out to be much more than expected.

  3. worked out he could not break even selling them.

  4. had spent all the money from the orders on dev, and thus could not return it.

So, i think it was just him making a mistake with the business model.

Maybe, if he had changed the business model to more of a crowd funding model, where people invest, understanding it is for dev purposes, and might never get a product if things go wrong during dev, then he might have come out of it better.

It is also a shame he did not open source his designs, so others could finish them.

  1. He exists outside of the framework universe.

FWIW, I ordered a DongleHider+ on 18th February 2025, it didarrive, on the 24th March (in England).

From other comments in the forum, it seems like he was young (he’d be 16 or 17 now) so more than likely he just didn’t manage the project correctly, got inundated with life, and has now withdrawn from the community. I might at that age too if I got myself into more than I expected.

I honestly don’t care, I want my Oculink board, and if that means helping fund the development, I wouldn’t mind.
