I just wanted to pause for a moment and say how much I’m enjoying this new laptop. I have machines that are faster, have longer battery life, run cooler, etc but I don’t feel anywhere near the ownership that I do with my framework.
The first time I cracked it open and saw that every piece in there was something that I could use elsewhere made my little maker heart skip a beat. It’s one thing to see the pictures and the youtube videos, it’s another entirely to remove the motherboard and power it up outside of the case yourself.
I can’t wait for the marketplace, the custom expansion cards, the upgrade opportunities and all the little bits and bobs that will go into making it even more my own.
Thanks a ton team. This had to have been a slog, but I really adore my little white (for now) laptop.
I just got mine in this week. Popped it open, plugged my parts in (who thought those tiny little wifi/bt antenna plugs was a good idea!), and slipped my Windows USB drive in. I was a little concerned at the start because it took over a minute for the display to finally light up, but the install ran with minimal problems (which were solved when I installed the drivers package).
I was involved back in the day with Dell’s Project Sputnik, a release of their XPS 13 laptops fully supporting Ubuntu. I supported it because I’ve always been a proponent of people being able to modify their technology to fit their lives, and not the other way around. I still have my Sputnik messenger bag, even though that XPS is long gone. My Framework laptop now has a place of honor in that bag, and I look forward to seeing what Framework comes up with next.
I just want to join into the appreciation, I got mine this morning and this has been an excellent experience. I can really feel the care and attention that was put into this device, at every step of the process. The guides are excellent too, even if I really only needed the intended routing of the ends of the wifi cables!
