Laptop 16 with thinkpad keyboard and trackpoint - Martin Roth

I found the following post by Framework’s X account via the X’s mirror site. I searched this forum and Reddit. But I couldn’t find the original post. So, I am creating this thread for this topic.

@Martin_Roth Is it your project? Where can we find the details? The project looks amazing. It also inspires people who want to use a trackpoint on the Framework Laptop.

If you create your own thread about this topic, I am happy to merge this thread into your new thread.

This is awesome! It’s different from my goal to get a mobo into a T25, but I love that this exists! It gives me hope.

Thank you for finding the comment on the thread. OK. I made a mistake.

@Martin_L_Roth, is this your project, right? Where can we find the details of your project?

Let me write up a full post about it.

In the meantime, here are the links to the pieces in onshape:

Front spacer in onshape
Rear spacer in onshape
Screen shim in onshape

My build is printed with PLA on a G-10 sheet with the top surface facing down for the smoothest possible first layer.

Note that the modules are not held in well at this point. I’m still working on a solution for that.

These are designed to work with the ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint

The hard part of the build is the right-angle microUSB adapter to go from the keyboard connector to the cable. I had to remove the casing from the adapter to get it to fit.

The screen shims are to provide the correct angle so that the screen doesn’t get broken when closing the laptop. I’ve carried the laptop in my bag for a while without any issues. This can prevent the system from suspending properly when the lid is closed.
