Left side ports dont work

all of the ports on the left side of the computer have fully stopped working. they dont charge, usb doesnt work, and neither does anything else on any of them. previously i had all of my ports stop working, as well as my power button light, but i fixed that by taking the computer apart and putting it back together again.

tried that now, and it didnt fix this issue. im just stuck with 3 ports on the right now, any ideas? this is my main computer and for only being 2 months old now it should not be this constantly buggy. not trying to just complain here, i want to fix the issue, but as much as ive loved this thing its been so unbelievably buggy and annoying. it’s nice its repairable, but id rather not have to repair it constantly in the first place.

I’m assuming the disassembly may have already done this, but there’s a bios setting for battery disconnect that sometimes solves USB port shutoff due to short protection triggering.

Try triggering that, then shutoff and let it sit for a minute or 2. Removing the battery after the bios switch may also help.

If it works after, that’s good, but you’ll still want to find the source of the problem. It sounds like you may be using something that’s consistently triggering the shutoff. It could be a motherboard hardware issue, but it could also be a faulty charger, dock, USB device, etc. I’d check all your cables to make sure they’re properly rated, intact, etc.

Might also want to confirm the problem isn’t limited to the left side, i.e. switch all your normal connectors to the right side for a while and see if that eventually triggers the off-protection. If it’s only the left, it could be a motherboard issue, in which case contact support.

Like Qyygle said, short circuit protection probably kicked in. Similar instructions to his that I pasted from a reddit comment I made a few minutes ago:

  1. Unplug laptop

  2. Go to BIOS and do “Disconnect Battery”

  3. Shut down, and wait like 3 seconds

  4. Plug device back in.

  5. Ports should work.

Edit: Oh, OP is the same person as Reddit, that makes sense. Hopefully that works

Thank you, I was just going to say that I had the same issue and you helped me out!

We are all end users here on the forums. If this has happened more than once support should be involved. Something is triggering the controller on that side of the board to shutdown. There could be something loose inside the chassis, something is shorting out across the board where it should not, etc.

Be mindful of any cables plugged into that side of the board too. It would not be the first time half the ports stop responding due to a crappy or damaged cable/connector being plugged in. (This is just a general statement not directed at the author here)

Support will be the best resource to help navigate what is the root cause.
